Do they make any difference? Are there any preferred brands?
-
I just mentioned one of these in a PM.
I find Microsol indespensable when it come to applying over curves and bumpy surfaces. Brought back many a lost cause from the dead too. I would recommend them definately.

I only read this because from the title I thought it might help me in my financial wheeler-dealings. ::) Sorry. ;)

I was staring at this one, wondering why I couldn't understand it, then it clicked (I think). The title should be decals, not deals, right?

me too, although I try to avoid decals as much as possible

The two top brands are Micro-Sol and Solva Set. I have used both and find them an absolute necessity when doing decal work. It helps elimiinate the edges, helps them stay flat on curved or irregular surfaces. A light coat of gloss or matte finish afterwards and its hard to tell it even is a decal. Definately a must have for any modelers tool box.

You could always use Erdal Glänzer or some equivalent. Saves you one additional bottle among the zillions you already have in your workshop as it has several other uses.

They are definitely useful for difficult curves and shapes. Applying them on a gloss coated model helps their appearance a lot, also.
