April 23 (tomorrow, as I write this) is the anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. It is also, according to tradition his birthday, which may seem like taking dramatic unity too far.
Anyway, here he is, strutting and fretting his hour upon the stage.

I couldn't find a 28mm mini that was suitable. This figure was being sold as a key fob. It's 38mm and rather flat. So, even with my eternally limited painting and photographic skills, I think I could do something better than this for next year's Shakespeare's birthday. Any suggestions for a 28mm Shakespeare look-alike?

Nicely painted and photographed. If he's a bit flat you have hidden it well. I can't think of any suitable figure myself, but you might find something by trolling through Foundry's Elizibethan Sea Dogs range.
You could always commemorate the great man by painting up some of his characters. The Perrys have Richard the Third now, Crusader just came out with some dark age Scots that would do for MacBeth, and there are numerous Julius Cesars knocking about. With a little searching you could probably source enough figures to cover most of his works.

You have hidden very well its flatness.
Two years ago I visited with my daughter (after spending the whole day at tate Modern) the Globe theater reconstruction in London and of course being closed, I visited the souvenir shop (my daughter was a fan of Shakespeare at the time) and I bought two of those key fob/keyholders. Indeed they are semi-round, but some are more round than the others.
My idea was to use one as a statue of William Shakespeare (to ornate some village?) and the other as a Shakespearean actor!

Thanks. I looked at Foundry, Vendel and Graven Images, and even peered into some Pendraken blister packs at Vapnartak, since they aren't on the web, but nothing seemed right to me. I'll keep looking.

That's a thought. The only Shakespearean models I have at the moment are these RAFM witches I painted a few years ago.
