Title: The umpteenth fallout project. Update 08-04-13
Post by: Arcturus on April 25, 2010, 09:29:08 AM
After seeing so many gorgeous fallout projects, i couldn't resist to start my own.

Here come the pics:

My interpretation of a Pulowski Preservation Shelter:

Post-Apocalyptic Economy Cars:

Post-Apocalyptic Truck (in the meantime i found out that the "1950 Chevy Cab" looks exactly like the Trucks in Fallout 3, so there will be more Trucks and Cars in the future)

And finally a Chrylus Ad and a group shot of my growing Wastelander Army:

I hope this topic still adds variety to the fallout miniature universe. Any comments are very welcome!

Nice.  Those Messerschmitt 3-wheelers are so cute.  Of course, you now need Triumph Spitfires for an opposing faction!

Post by: Sinewgrab on April 25, 2010, 07:04:03 PM
You have raised multiple questions now, lad...

What did you use for the 3 wheelers? I am jealous...

And I envy you coming up with the use of the Star Wars turret cannons for Pulowskis - I scratched some together out of tube and bottle caps , but I may go back and make a few more out of these. Lovely stuff you have here. Where did you get the decals for Fallout Shelter and Radiation Symbols?

Kabinenroller for the win! lol

That looks very nice. Those turrets are StarWars models or toys, I assume?
Title: Re: The umpteenth fallout project
Post by: Arcturus on April 26, 2010, 06:11:11 AM
Good morning, here are the answers:

The 3-Wheelers are 2x Messerschmitt Kabinenroller from Gama and the bigger one is a Heinkell "Bubble Car" from Corgi Toys all 1/43 Scale

The Pulowski Shelters are Star Wars turrets from the Wizard of the Coast CMG. They are called "Golan Arms D9 Anti-Infantry Battery".

The Fallout Shelter Decals are printouts. You can get them here:

http://doorfromhellradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/falloutsheltersigns.jpg

The Chryslus Ad is from the Internet too. But i can't find it anymore. So, here it comes:

The Billboard comes with several 1/43 Cars from the 50's from "Road Champs".

That looks like a very solid start to some post-apoc gaming :)

Like everyone else, I really like those three wheelers.

More please :)

Fantastic! Really inspiring and it really feels like Fallout 8). What did you use for the sign stand (the one where the chryslus ad is in)?
Title: Re: The umpteenth fallout project
Post by: Hawkeye on April 26, 2010, 08:59:09 PM
Excellent start! Lots of characters in these - love the fallout shelters!

Like everyone else, I have another question to throw into the ring - what ranges are the miniatures from? One or two look familiar, but I can't place them, and the others I don't know at all. They look great, in any case!

Post by: Arcturus on April 27, 2010, 06:12:38 AM

The Billboard comes with "Road Champs" 1950's 1/43 Cars.

The two Big guys are Outlaw Trash from Foundry's Street Violence Range, The Punk Chick is one of Scabie's Punks also from the Street Violence range.

The pointing guy is from the old Grenadier Future Wars Series. Now available through em4 or Mirliton.

The guy with the gasmask is the "Masked One" from Black Cat Bases.

The skeletons in the cars are posable skeleton armatures from Ebob.

If you pester Ian at Fenris Games he's got billboards in the WIP pile.

Oh don't worry I'll pester him! :D

Nice step up and nice figures. For futuristic cars you should try to source a set of the Marx toys cars of the future, perfect for fallout and a few people here including me have got a few sets.

Looking forward to more posts on this.

I have a couple of those plastic Marx cars left if you need them Arcturus Don't think I'll need 10 of them. I can miss 4 of 'em. I'll also add in some Fallout weapons if you'd like 'em (Combat Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Chinese Assault Rifle, Flamer).

@ Malebolgia: Thanks for the offer but i already have lots of Marx Cars and spare weapons from TAG.

Trucks - amazing!
Minis - amazing!
Union Jack on Raider's t-shirt - amazing!
Assorted Junk - amazing!

That's a lot of amazing, in case you weren't paying attention. Very, very nice! And so, of course, a question - what ranges are the trucks from, and what scale are they? They look....PERFECT! (you thought I was going to say "amazing", didn't you....)
Title: Re: The umpteenth fallout project. Update 05-08-10
Post by: Arcturus on May 08, 2010, 04:22:05 PM
The trucks scale is 1:43. They are from Ertl. "1950 Chevy Cab"

I got mine from ebay: oldtoystoreusa

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ertl-1950-Chevrolet-Garbage-Truck-1-43-MIB-21624p-/310211146574?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item483a06734e

The Nuka Cola Truck is simply a converted Garbage Truck. The "Winn Dixie" truck can be bought as shown here but i think its OOP.

So I am curious on the trucks (which I was able to get a couple of) how did you weather them so well, is that some sort of "weathering chalk"?  Basically how did you get them to look so dilapidated (it's the same technique you used on your cars).  Is it a wash?
Inquiring and inspired painters would love to know.
Thanks.
Title: Re: The umpteenth fallout project. Update 05-08-10
Post by: Arcturus on June 09, 2010, 08:30:48 PM
The Nuka Cola truck was completely stripped and repainted. Then just drybrushed several browns and blacks on.

The rest of the trucks was disassembled and treated with a wire brush to remove paint and break the sealing varnish open. After that i scratched more paint off with a screwdriver and a knife.

Next step is to take enamel paint (i use Revell "rust" colour, think it's even called so), thin it or use it straight from the pot. Paint all parts and rub the still wet paint away with kitchen roll. The rust paint stays in the crevices and even the altered areas keep a rusty haze.

A good finish is to drybrush a light beige on everything. Which i haven't done on all of the trucks/cars.

Hope that helps. I hope on the weekend there will be a little update with some more Raiders and maybe another truck.

Next thing in the pipeline is a unit of Light Enclave Infantry, which is in fact nothing special, just 6 of the EM4 Troopers in NBC suits.

In the medium and long run there will be a Supermutant Behemoth, more Wasteland Scum/Scavengers, Enclave Armed Drones, Talon Company and Freelance Mercenaries, Trader(s), Enclave Power Armour Troopers, maybe some Supermutants, Red Rocket Fueling Station, a Diner, Robots, more post apocalyptic garbage . . .

Ive been wondering for a while now, why no one has made use of Space Marines as either Enclave or Brotherhood units, they seem like the perfect choice given the customisibility and ready avaible source of miniatures. Great stuff.

Wow, great work on everything! I like your Kallistra conversion (the heavy weapon) and your paintjob on basically everything. The paintjob on the power armour is a bit rough though, too many metal coloured chippings I think. The scenery is absolutely beatiful!

They look like GW's Ash Waste Nomads with some conversion work.

@ The MightyFlip: I think nobody wants to use Space Marines because the "Evil Empire" makes them.

@ Commander Vyper: One half is from GW: Necromunda Scavvies (all of them more or less converted), the other half is form the Kallistra Future Range (the heavy weapons dude is a conversion)

Awesome additions!  :-*

As for the GW Space Marine query... I think the real reason for their non-use is that they look so obviously like GW Space Marines, so it would be difficult to pass them off as anything else without major conversion. Instead of 40k figures in a Fallout setting, the whole thing becomes just another 40k setting. They are just too recognisable to use effectively.

I agree if you build them as Space Marines, but use different heads, leave off any skulls, backpacks and shoulder pads, not to mention different weapons and I think you have some decent power armored troopers.

Beautiful Scum! It's not everyday you get the chance to say that! I thought they might be Necroumunda scavvies, but they look perfect. Great weapon swaps, fantastic painting. Wonderful.

As for the Red Rocket fuel station - AMAZING! I'm guessing the rocket itself is a plastic toy of some sort, but what about the letters on the sign? By the way, the painting on the sign is beautifully done. Great weathering, and the red still looks vibrant through it. The building of the station itself - is it Plasticville? You've done an amazing job, whatever the source. I love the carwash!

Absolutely fantastic work!

The Rocket is a Toy indeed. It works with baking soda and vinegar. I ordered two. One for my station and one for the kids.

Here's a link, but i think you can get them cheaper on ebay.
http://www.adorablekidsdressup.com/product/SCBSVR.html

I added some cardboard stripes and rivets from Naval modelbuilding (over 120 holes drilled and rivets glued)

Here's a WIP Picture:

The letters are self-adhesive letters for creating individual car markings.

The station building is an OOP german manufactured toy. I picked it up from ebay for 1 buck. Manufacturer is called "JEAN".

The Sentry Bot is indeed a converted Warbot from Hydra Miniatures. I added some Space Marine Terminator arms, a Grenade Launcher from the Wargames Factory Shock Troops and the legs are made from the arms of a Star Wars CMG T-1 Bulk Loader droid, some wire and wooden pearls.

@ mattblackgod: The Robot is a converted Hydra Miniatures Warbot:
http://shop.hydraminiatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_31&products_id=32

The other parts are mentioned above.

@ Earther: I ordered the Ratnik Figures directly from Russia:

So in my case everything went perfectly well. Fast delivery and a pleasant transaction, but you have to pay via Western Union, since Paypal is not available in Russia.

At the moment i'm planning to do enough industrial themed terrain to do a full scale industrial board. Just bought two awesome toy sets with cranes and stuff yesterday from ebay. Hope it's the right size.

But i always wanted an excuse to buy one or two 1:48-scale flyers. Well an airforce base might just be this excuse.  :D

WOOW!!!   :o this is excellent stuff
I love your barracks, the tanks your huge waste counters the tents.

This is awesome stuff.

Do you sell some of your stuff because you made so many tanks and barracks or do you build such a huge table?

I love what you do!

Thanks, SerialMoM.

You can get the Huts quite cheap at Webshops: 6 Huts for about 16 €.
For example here:

http://www.magierspiele.de/product_info.php?products_id=217003

For the rest i have to say sorry but it's not for sale. I'm always more than happy if real live leaves enough time to get anything done at all and besides the table will be 2 x 1.4 metres with the option to go for a smaller 1.4 x 1.2 metre table. So i really need all that terrain.  :D

This is looking better and better, Arcturus.  Well done!  I think I am going to get a few of those Dust Quonsets for a Nellis Air Field board...

:-* the ventilation towers turned out really well. Not bad for an old pc fan and a pack of chips.

I like the mound of car wreck and various parts. I like the little details and the differential/suspension setup. Nice.

Yeah you need some MIG kits and 1/48 sci Fi kits to kitbash.

Cheers
Matt.
