Title: 32nd Century French Marines
Post by: frontal assault on 27 April 2010, 06:00:50 PM
Hopefully that got your attention.

Okay for a book I am writing, I want to create an army as a visual aid/incentive to write, and to be honest just because its something different.

Anyway I envision my army as an elite but small force of marines (or marsouins as they're known in French) and I'm thinking of using some of the models and parts from the Imperial Guard and Tau ranges, as well as maybe some of the impressive models from wargames factory and pig iron minatures.

Anyone got any thoughts on anything about this project?

I'd imagine France, or most European countries wouldn't exist in any way other than a single entity by that point.

Otherwise, cool idea. Just paint up the Marines how you see fit. I'd imagine technology by that point would make Camo pointless, so colours might even be usable.  ???

It's really hard to envision how technology might look in 1200 years let alone 12,000 - as far as we can tell, 12,000 years ago humans dressed in skins and hadn't invented the cooking pot let alone writing or any concept of money. Technology and society in general have come a very long way since then.

That aside, yeah, why not? The 13,000 year survival of the state of France doesn't seem terribly likely, but who's to say?

Viva la France!
I made a load of Napoleonic Highland Scots inspired imperial guard a while back, with the intention of getting them cast up, but then lost enthuisiasm for 40k, and the project has stood still since.

Tradition trumps all-100 or 13000 years the French "Dress uniform will be dark blue jackets with red pants-Vive La Napoleon!  If camo is no longer needed in your universe than this would be the combat uniform too-think 1914 French Army.

It's really hard to envision how technology might look in 1200 years let alone 12,000 ... The 13,000 year survival of the state of France ...

I can't count can I? You do mean 3100 not 31,000, don't you? I read the title as 32nd Millennium (sorry, too much 40k I'm afraid).

Will France exist in a thousand years? Well, it's managed most of the last 1000, so why not? I'd think the major problem would be that a great deal of the north will be under water. But I think Prof is right - blue jackets and red trousers would be the order of the day.

I'm envisioning only the right arm as red, though perhaps certain officers will have red helmets.  As for much of the North being underwater, well let's just say they'll have a lot more real estate by this point.
