Title: Royal Navy Heavy Rocket detatchment ~ NOT for 'button counters'!
Post by: Yankeepedlar01 on 02 May 2010, 09:42:40 AM
I wanted a model in my Colonial games to represent the heavier rockets in service later in the C19th, so I used the Naval Gardener gun crew from Perry Miniatues' Sudan range, together with the rocket piece from their Carlist War range. I know its an obsolete weapon by the period I want to use it in , but its fun! It also means I can use the machinegun now with a Beja crew for my Sudan game ~ I'm working on them now.

Good man. A nice piece put together for all the right reasons - I applaud you.

very well done and also very inventive

what is the long stick for? Is the rocket getting stuffed down the barrel?

If it operates in the same way as the Carlist War version he has pinched the rocket frame from then the long stick is the rocket. The thick bit with the explosives in it is obscured by a crewman, I presume.

Ah, found out! The rocket 'head' is hidden for the reason that I did n't know what colours to paint it and did n't want to look too foolish! :?

Looks great! I'd have no problem using obsolete weapons like this, especially in colonial settings. I might even try something similar for my Darkest Africa forces  :D

After all it happens plenty of times in the real world, what with overstretched military budgets etc. The British armed forces are constantly having to make do with dodgy old kit due to penny-pinching by politicians.
