Title: The pine tree

A little report of our last WHD! game : http://creepycorridor.blogspot.com/2010/05/pine-tree.html

It was a 7 player game with 500pts per team. no restrictions on how you used your points, so an all "lead" team or just a giant robot fully tooled up was all possible (and used!).

Altough the game was immense fun it was somewhat out of balance. The action broke up in small seperate battles on the tabletop and with 7 players waiting for your turn tends to get the BS and moviequote rating to extreme levels  :D It was hard to keep track of what was going on at the other side of the battlefield.
Also time becomes a factor as the flow of play is slower.

For the next battle we will be trying something a little more structured. 2 players take control of the evil side with one lead and one companion with masses of supporters divided between them to a max of 2000pts while 4 good players each control a small team of no more than 500pts. The good side will have to work together to achieve or complete the scenario (wich is not yet decided upon  ;) ).

So lots more WHD! to come !  lol

Where Heroes Dare! = A pulp ruleset from Iron Ivan Games. Well worth a look  ;)

Big games with a "let's see how badly we can bend the system" ethos can be good fun; if nothing else, they teach you the limits of a given rulesset; sometimes they surprise you with how flexible a system actually is. (Too Fat Lardies' "Sharpe Practice" Naps skirmish system works quite nicely as a four-regiments-per-side bigger-battle system, for example!)

We need more giant robot action in our pulp games. One of our players has a mad science team in progress, but he's among the universes slowest painters, so...

I agree ...
We usually start off with bending the rules to breaking point to explore the game and get to know it. Later on it starts to level out and we go over to more storydriven and objective based games instead of just going on a killing spree  :D

The WHD! ruleset is actually very flexible and allows for a lot of strange stuff ... Just look at our games, some of us have a lot of imagination  lol
