Title: My first AWI British (from 'playskool' ;)
Post by: OSHIROmodels on 12 May 2010, 08:27:40 AM
I painted these the Sunday after Salute (did sod all else which was the idea  :D ) but only got round to finishing the bases last night.

I might get round to painting the eyes at some point, but don't hold your breath

'Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes'

'But they don't have any!'

'Damn!'

 :D

cheers

Ooooh they are very nice.

Haven't heard of the playskool brand (or am I being spectacularly thick?!).

BTW, very nice fencing in the background, which I think I shall be copying so thanks!  :D

Thanks chaps and no I haven't gone mad, just a change of scene  :D Don't worry, I still have my Copplestone Japanese in hand and the lit dirigible on the go (and three new walkers  ;D posts soon)

Haven't heard of the playskool brand (or am I being spectacularly thick?!).

I'm afraid so dear boy  ;D (it's just daft take on the old toy manufacturer  ;) ) By all means use the snake fencing. One thing I've done with them is not to glue the poking out ends to the uprights, the reason being is that two ends of fencing can fit in together (like interlocking fingers).

I had a quick look at the Osprey French forts in north east America before and I really like some of the stone forts that were made. Similar to the Vauban designs going on but small and compact (I like them almost enough to get me into FIW, but not quite yet  ;) )

cheers

Two dozen with flags in a single day - that puts me to shame and they reckon I'm quick.

Lovely looking unit indeed. Seemed quite a tangent but it appears you have dragged others along already.

You two can split the difference and do bits of the AWI that featured Indians. "1777, Year of the Hangman" is a great book on the subject. It covers a lot more than just the 1777 fighting too. http://www.amazon.com/Year-Hangman-Washingtons-Campaign-Iroquois/dp/1594160139/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273752669&sr=1-4 (http://www.amazon.com/Year-Hangman-Washingtons-Campaign-Iroquois/dp/1594160139/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273752669&sr=1-4)

I also like "Simon Girty, Turncoat Hero", but I am biased as I befriended the author and did some proof reading. It covers Girty (obviously) and some of the neglected fighting in the Ohio/Kentucky areas.

Hopefully I managed to fix my messed up links.

Flags were printed from a freebie site (can't remember how I got there now, they have lots there, also quite a few different periods. The site background is olive green if that's any help [probably not  ;D ])

I was doing them the whole day (my wife even made me lunch, which was nice  :) ) and there's only one highlight on everything apart from the red which has two.

Sounds like the Danish wargames site.  Click on the Download button in the lefthand column.  Your standards appear to be the 44th Regiment of Foot.
