Title: Recent Stuff while recovering
Post by: gauntman on 14 May 2010, 03:23:44 AM
So my painting has been slowed for the last few weeks due to a badly fractured finger.  While I heal awaiting the removal of the 2 metal pins protruding from my hand, I have been limited to working on a few scenery pieces while the unpainted metal figures multiply in my display cabinet .  NOTE: This injury was not received while painting or crafting scenery. ;)

In the meantime, I thought I'd post some pics of a few figures and a couple scenery items I've not previously posted.

A lighthouse CD terrain piece I've thrown together and primed.  This is by far the tallest piece of CD scenery I've made yet.

A dock CD terrain piece for the edge of my game mat.

I'm eagerly waiting to Paint my Pulp Figures Cultists & Captain Courageous Figures, and my RAFM COC Maniacs.  Any day now, I should also be receiving the Ventriolquist and Detective Figures from Black Army Miniatures by Doc Twilight.  I keep checking my mailbox each day for their arrival.  Isn't it fun checking the mail when you're expecting a shipment of incoming minis.  It's kinda like Christmas.

Anyway, take care and enjoy.  Keep the pics coming, I need new ideas while I'm sitting at home twiddling my fingers.

An excellent selection of miniatures, and I love how the bases and terrain match each other. Really helps them 'disappear.'

You're not a lefty are you (no worries, I most certainly am)? Though that's prolly a silly thing to ask if you painted all that with any hand in that condition.

Didn't know Mirlton had a snake miniature like that.

So whatever you were doing wasn't really worth it!   :o

 ;)

Hope it heals up well.

Great idea for that lighthouse! Is that a super-glue plastic pill bottle thingy?! Very creative.

Thanks all.  Actually, I caught one of the pin ends on my pants this morning and ripped it out of my finger (all two inches of it) :o.  Boy was the hand surgeon happy with me. :)

Maybe I am weird but if I'd had metal pins taken out of my hand I'd love to use them in some way in with minis or in a little vignette. Weapons? Fence posts?

Great idea....  I think I will use the pins for some nostalgic scenery piece.

As to what I was doing when I was injured.  I was trying to convince a rather rash young fellow to wear a pair of fine metal bracelets and then strongly encourage him to stay at a a rather specific hotel for an entended period.  He disented strongly to wearing the bracelets but was eventually encouraged by my insistance and the rather late arrival of my associates to begrudgingly agree with my selections.

I've been trying to remain consistant with how I base figures and scenery so the blend as easily as possible.  I use PVA glue and sand with a coat of black primer or ink followed by drybrushing light brown and tan.

I painted these pre-injury.  I'm right-handed but it's terribly hard to hold and stabilize the figures while I paint.  I can't imagine how terrible it would be to loose my ability to paint.

The giant snake and the tribesman holding the adder come in a package together.http://www.mirliton.it/product_info.php?pName=shapeshifter-shaman&cName=fantasy-2528mm-barbarians (http://www.mirliton.it/product_info.php?pName=shapeshifter-shaman&cName=fantasy-2528mm-barbarians)

Thanks.  I just took an old paper towel tube, a prescription bottle (which I had a few extra of), some spackle, some wire and some wooden coffee stirrers.  It seems to be coming along nicely and is just the right size.  I once purchased a Lemax lighthouse but found that it was to large and heavy to store and manage .  This one is just the right size.

Oh boy, and I thought I was the only one who had to deal with disagreeable people when applying the bracelets.

These are great miniatures, I'm not familiar with the nightmares range. Which company produces them?

Thanks!
