Title: Seebattalion Artillery
Post by: Sinewgrab on May 19, 2010, 08:53:13 AM
Pardon my ignorance guys, but I got a full set of the Pulp Figures German Seebattalion figures for Christmas, and I am building my German VSF force (to oppose my Martian Norwegians) from them, (they are the next project after my Fallout is done) and I find myself unable to figure out what artillery they would have had, except maybe 77mm Krupps.

Help? Or do I need to go to the Colonial section?

It might be better to go to 'Colonial' as there are some very well educated types who wouldn't touch this board with a rivetted barge pole  ;D

I've has a quick look in my Boxer Rebellion books and can only find reference to 'guns and howitzers', no mention of types and poundage.

cheers

James

The VSF Adventures answer is "It's VSF, do what you want."  ;)

The Colonial Adventures answer is that I think only III Seebataillon had any artillery of its own (one Marine-Feld-Batterie was attached from 1898 onwards, serving in China). The other battalions would have relied on artillery from other arms (such as the Schutztruppe) in the force they were serving in.

Here's an Axis History Forum topic discussing their guns:  >>LINK<<  (http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=157894)
And one with some piccies:  >>LINK<<  (http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=138648)

Chris Dale can no doubt set us straight about this. Some of those posts there are from him and he has recently joined the LAF. He knows his business when it comes to this type of thing, and hopefully he'll be along presently to help if I have got anything wrong.

While I know that the VSF answer is whatever you want, I like to mix just a little history in to keep it spicy. I'll drop the query in the Colonials, and see what answers I can derive between their hoots of derisive laughter and mocking comments.

Please don't do that. You have already asked the question once. There is absolutely no point in having the same conversation in two different places.

I think I would argue that with you, Plynkes. When I was trying to find pygmy models, I posted in colonial, fantasy, and pulp, and I got very different answers from each, that did not show up in the other. I know for fact that not everyone reads this board by going through all of the unread posts, and the only to get in contact with some of the more knowledgable tenants on this board is to find the board they frequent.

Well if you feel you must then I guess you must. It isn't against the rules, it's just that I know it pisses off quite a few people when folks do this. Just trying to keep the peace.

Heh - I think the most violent responses I have seen is when it is a spamfest of essentially a sales pitch. I'm looking through sites you pointed me at - if I don't find what I need though, I may just pop the question in there - but I'll make a point of letting them know I am asking asecond time because I am looking for their expert testimony...because I am, really.

I want to use the Seebattalion because a) I love the figures, especially the officer with the wine bottle, and b) to me, it makes perfect sense for the Navy to be in control of most VSF vehicles, as they aren't really 'land based' a lot of the time. If I can get one, I am going to make a Star Wars AT AT into a VSF Walker, and then build a boat to carry it. All in goo time, I suppose. But for now, I need to figure out what they may have had for guns.

And of course, once I find out what guns they may have had, I'll need to find them in 28mm form.

All this talk of them has made me want to paint up some myself, to face my Ngoni in a bit of Maji-Maji "fun." I won't be needing any arty - can't see that horse drawn 8cm rig the Marine-Feld-Batterie had in China being any use in disease-ridden East Africa, but I'm trying to decide whether to go with the white or khaki helmets.

I am going to be lazy, and do them in khaki, myself. I have a greenish tinged tan I am going to use, as I like the color. Does it have any historical accuracy? I have no idea. Still going to use it.

And since you are like a god among men, is there a manufacturer doing 7.7cm Krupp out there? I don't even know where to start.
