Some games come down very clear on this point; you can or you can not pre-measure for movement, for fire or for both.
How do you rule this when you play your games of Strange Aeons?

I am usually able to estimate most ranges within a half inch, often even a quarter, so I freely encourage pre measure by others.

I am very strict on my table about this: Feel free to measure anything at any time...and 'yes', bend your tape measure however you can... :)

Not allowing pre-measuring just gives a benefit to those people that can gauge distances well.

The thing is most people who use a weapon would know if it was in range so stopping pre-measure at times seem's silly.
In games of sci-Fi i think any system that doesn't is really stupid mainly due to tech advancements etc..

Conversation during my last game:
Opponent (Threshold): Is it OK to pre-measure?
Me (Cultist): Of course it is! How will you know if the range is right?
Oppo: OKI TX.
Me: Hmmm 9.5", take a shotgun to the face, foul Threshold agent!
...never got the point about not pre-measuring... :D

Amen. I've seen lots of games that don't allow pre-measuring, and even came up with some home-brew rules myself that did the same. Let me tell you from experience: forcing someone to play those rules against a pair of gamers who can guess measurements to within an eighth of an inch (at distances up to 4 feet and more) is a surefire way to convert someone to the pro-pre-measuring camp. ::)
