I painted up some NBC troopers to a tabletop standard for my growing Umbrella force (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/tag/umbrella/) recently.
I decided to go with a more comic book style than simply paint them in greens or khakis or similar. I used colours from the Umbrella logo pallette. They ended up reminding me of some sort of specialist Red Shadow troops.
I dislike painting red. Although the combination of the photo lighting/quality and the gloss varnish on the red areas has made the shading on the red hard to see, I am pleased with how it looks in person: its a true rich red and not a brown or black or anything like that. The suits look very much like how a big red rubber suit should look I think. Thank you Tamiya Clear Red.
The scientist was painted recently and looks pleasing with the squad so I put him in with them too.
More info and photos on my blog (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2010/06/01/umbrella-security-service-nbc-squad-red-shadows/).
Comments and critcisms all welcome :)

You're right the picture doesn't look like it does justice to your red uniforms. I can see some shading, but I suspect there is a lot I can't see in this picture. How did you do those bases. They are nice an clean detail wise.

Very nice!!

Those look excellent. The red and black combination is very striking. The lenses on the masks could be a bit brighter for my taste, but actually look very realistic the way they are.

Yup very red shadow nicely done. I'll want to start over with mine, nothing wrong with em just bored of the colour schemes and fancy something else. (US digital camo for example).
Anyway back to these guys.... Baron Ironblood would be proud.. Blood for the BARON!!!

Im glad that you like the bases, even if my photography leaves a bit to be desired. I really must set up a dedicated photography area.
They bases are simply PVA glue dunked into a box of sand that I picked up at a beach about ten minutes from where I live. The sand is quite grey and fine so it gives an acceptable generic look. I have mucked about with all sorts of basing styles over the years but recently I have been trying to find out the quickest method that still looks acceptable. Detailed bases are cool and I sometimes still go the extra mile, but often a plain base works better in my opinion. A lot of figure bases are so busy as to distract from the model IMO.
Plus glue and sand is about as quick as it gets :)

Interesting. I never saw the lenses as realistic looking really, although now they are starting to remind me of welding goggles that I have seen.
I choose green because its kinda creepy and I like painting it, plus it contrasts well with the red. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks. Im not good at keeping focussed while painting "historical" or faux historical schemes. So I tend to end up with goofier, more Saturday morning cartoon looking stuff in an effort to keep enthusiasm up. It could be worse.

Thanks. I didnt know how people would react to these figures as they turned out more James-Bond-villain-henchmen than I originally expected.
