It looks like a great game. What rules did you use? What happened to the Sherman mine flailer?
-
Rapid Fire 2
Sherman mine flailing funny hit by 150mm off table fire!
Glad you liked the game, I was beginning to think there were no real wargamers in this Forum! :'(

Great looking game! Love the beach!

What a cheek! :o
Nice game, but why Fray Bentos? o_o
-
Can I count as a real wargamer?
This set up looks like the last game I played of rapid fire, scienario out of the D-Day book. Yours does look a lot nicer than mine though.
I used to play Rapid fire alot before I got suduced by pulp games and then joined this forum. Haven't really looked at my WWII stuff since then.
Some very nice stuff on show. Boats, buildings and vehicles. :-* :-* :-*

Fray Bentos was the name of a real tank in WWI. It is an example of a tanker's black humour, as Fray Bentos is meat in a can, just like a tank crew.
I painted that name on one of my Mark IVs, as I thought it was quite funny.

It would n't have been so funny to those inside it at the time though....

Well they must have found it funny. Nobody forced them to paint it on their tank. :)

Amusing, yes, in a black hummour sense, funny, I think not.
-
You're splitting hairs. Amusing and funny are synonyms. Black humour that isn't funny isn't black humour, but something else.

No I'm not splitting hairs, or anything else. Amusing and funny are not the same in my mind, nor do I think in the English language, Oxford Dictionary:-
Amuse ~ 'Divert from serious business' or 'ticle the fancy of'
Funny ~ ' affording fun, comical, curious, queer, hard to account for'
Hardly the same at all really. ;)

The common name for the Sherman in the US army at the time was "Death Trap". Many tank crews chose names like that to reflect their view of this woefully out gunned tank.

OED, eh? Two can play at that game.
Amuse
2. Make person laugh or smile.
Dunno about you, but I don't go around laughing for no reason, it's pretty much always because I find something funny. :)
But however you want to argue semantics, calling your tank Fray Bentos is a joke. And jokes, even black ones, are meant to be funny. Even if it is a desperate, whistling in the dark, oh my God I hope I don't get killed kind of funny. That's what black humour is: Joking about things you didn't ought to be joking about, often just to shock, but in this case to take some comfort in making light of a terrible situation.
And that's all I have to say about that.
Oh, and by the way: Game looks great. Looks like a lot of fun. I really should have said that earlier.

Nice game, but why Fray Bentos? o_o
So not a nod to Uruguay in the World Cup then?
