Title: Zulu Attack
Post by: archangel1 on 02 June 2010, 03:53:12 PM
Check this out! Zulus by the thousands! Thanks to Paul Darnell at Touching History for the link.

For some reason, the Boer leader reminds me of Laurence Harvey's Colonel Travis in John Wayne's The Alamo.  I think it's the hat and coat.

THX for the "Blood River" link
excellent example for nationalistic propaganda and rewriting history by the winners.

While the Zulu warriors are excellently attired in their complete ceremonial dress!, walking at pace to meet the Boer musket volleys! throwing spears they did not use at the time! and wading through the river that was dry at the time of the battle!
The Voortrekkers are of course heroic and did not need the reloading done by their 200 black "servants" to maintain the deadly fire!
Also no mention of the shooting at the sitting reserve an the far side of the river, nor the fact that the Trekkers exploited a dynastic struggle between Dingane and prince Mapande to acquire Zulu land

Historic value - 0
Entertainement - excellent pictures of "attacking" Zulu

(sorry, but while I enjoy the entertainemet value I cannot abstain from being pissed by these kinds of movies.....  ;))
all cum grano salis please

Let's try and keep the video links a little less random, folks. I don't think there were any destroyers or submarines used in the Zulu/Voortrekker conflicts.  :)

I think he was following the Hollywood method of not letting a few "boring" historical facts get in the way of a good story.   ;)

@Plynkes:  Same goes for the Destroyers.  I could see off-shore naval fire showing up in a Uwe Boll directed Zulu film.
