Hi Guys,
Mike's finished a couple of new figures for our Thrilling tales range - Rick ( casablanca ) and one of his own creations- Swarmi Origami the eastern mystic :-)
Dont normally put up greens but Seeing as Mike worked on Rick non-stop after he watched Casablanca I thought I'd share it with you.
Excuse the quality of the photo's, I took them with my camera phone !

MUST... HAVE... NOW!
Thanks for sharing, they look great!
-
they are both lovely sculpts; thanks for sharing the pics mate.
The eastern mystic bloke is a must have for me. :D
-
Love the mystic
Any chance you guys can do a series of armed vampire/occult hunters? Regular guys with crosses, stakes and garlic but also totting rifles, pistols etc.
-
That's a mighty, mighty fine nugget of lead you've got there.

Nice idea, but already covered by other companies, e.g. West Wind.
What about Hal Roach and the Little Rascals (Our Gang).

Maybe I want Artizan sculpts?
Which West Wind range are you referring to?
-
Ahh, God dam'it!
Another couple of minis I have to get... :D
@gilibran: Same question:
Which West Wind range are you referring to?
Please enlighten us!

@ pixelgeek & agis
I had these ranges in mind:

Okay, these are more from the Victorian aera, but they might work.

Beautiful sculpts. :D

Hmm, I even have most of these minis, IMO they do not fit at all...
Maybe just a matter of personal taste!
-
Truly amazing - the level of detail on "Rick" is breathtaking...
-
Probably a 'must have'. Probably....
-
Superb...and both ready for Weird War Two as well! Rick will make a great Romanian vampire and the eastern mystic should go nicely with some Sikh infantry...
-
they look awesome! could very well be the best in the whole range!
-

Not really. Not very modern in appearance at all.
Very nice for Victorian games though
-
nitpickers...
Just 75 or so years before, does fashion changed that much?
But You are quite right. For a serious gamer and collector they do not fit.

I love the Mystic, another one for my list.
-
I'm loving these Thrilling Tales pulp figures. I think when it comes to injecting real individual character into a figure, Mike is just about the best.
I feel my resistance weakening... Must have sky pirates and nacht jagers...
And after Casablanca, perhaps a few figures based on Tales of The Gold Monkey?? :P
Oooh, and can you remind Mike that about two years ago, he told me he was aiming to start on a new range of Elizabethans 'in the next few months', to supplement the swashbucklers and sea dogs he originally sculpted for Foundry? (SURELY he must be nearly finished with WWII by now?)
-

Pulp Figures already made some. Better have Mike do something different. 8)
-
Ah, that presupposes one likes Bob Murch's style. Whilst I definitely like his imagination and terrific creativity, I'm just not sure about the Pulp sculpting style. But these things are very subjective, I appreciate.
But anything that gives Mike more time to think about launching his own range of sea dogs and swashbucklers in fine by me
-
Never mind Elizabethans, you can get those from loads of manufacturers. We could do with more 1940s film characters, otherwise it should be Dan Dare (plus Digby, Hank, Pierre, Sondar, Lex, Miss Peabody, and Stripey).
-
I am shocked that I've only just got here and have already attracted 2 comments of the 'you can already get those from somewhere else' variety!
Unfortunately for my own good - I'm discriminating! Be assured that if the 'loads of manufacturers' (erm.. Vendel? Old Glory? Gee thanks) already producing Elizabethans, produced them to the same character-oozing quality as Mike Owen, I wouldn't be pestering him to make some more!
But I do apologise for talking swashbucklers in the pulp thread.
-
I'm just not sure about the Pulp sculpting style.
I can understand. The pictures on the website give them a very distinct, rounded style. This might be in large part due to the painter's style I think, as in the metal it is far less predominant and once painted like my figures from other ranges even less so. :)
-
No offence old chap, after all Elizabethans is no more off-topic than Dan Dare.
Besides, are you talking historical Elizabethans or Errol Flynnesque ?

I'm with you, brothers. I have yet to order anything from Pulp Miniatures. I think the theme and subject of his miniatures are spot on but sometimes I am not sure about the poses. To illustrate:

Exhibit two, top row looks to much like Mr Doing-Squats-As-I-Walk'n-Shoot to look good among my Brigade sailors,

 He does look rather like he's been caught short...
I have had my eye on those Brigade merchant sailors... I like the look of the two merchant crews in chunky sweaters etc, but I like the look of the river boat / tramp steamer crew with Thompsons with drum magazines even more! Does anyone know if they are compatible, or perhaps even ( :D ) by the same sculptor?
-
I second some swash buckling Elizabethans too :D
-
I actually agree on the Pulp tramp steamer sailors. They look like they're somewhat of a serious step back compared to his other more recent work.
The rocketmen and Weird menace figures I have are much better though.
As for Brigade sailors, I think (this in no way engages my liability if proven wrong) that both sets were sculpted by Richard "Woody" Ansell. I've got one of the merchant seamen packs because I needed another Haddock and was too lazy to sculpt him from scratch again. They are very good figures.
But I think we're drifting here. Wasn't this an Artizan thread?
-

None taken dear fellow  Anyway, I love Dan Dare/ (Almost as much as I love The Trigan Empire - remember that?)
Besides, are you talking historical Elizabethans or Errol Flynnesque ?
Oh Errol Flynnesque, definitely. Swashbuckling and intrigue - Doctor John Dee, Papish plotters, the villainous Bullens, Hawkins, Drake and Frobisher, The Duke of Norfolk, Spanish raids in The West Country, Reivers burning the Marches - all that lot. Fun. :)
But no, they don't belong here, so I'll move them somewhere else!
-
Remember the Trigan Empire ?
Certainly do !
Do you think that they would classify as Pulp ?
Romans with ray-guns and spaceships fighting against various monsters and arabs.
They don't write 'em like that anymore !
-
Thank god they don“t, that right-wing propaganda piece was very, very hard to stomach. I guess you have to grow up with it.
-
I had a Trigan Empire book bought for me in Eindhoven when I was six. I loved it.
As the text was all in Dutch, any political message it may have had totally failed to take hold. :)
-
I have the whole Trigan Empire range in Dutch, but I don't mind, as I am Dutch
They are all out in English now as well I believe. The Dutch Don Lawrence fanclub made new versions in Dutch and English.
But, back on topic... Lovely greens  :)
