Title: Tentacles!
Post by: B. Basiliscus on 15 June 2010, 09:17:55 PM
Yes, tentacles!
No lovecraftian adventure is complete without them!
Whether your character is venturing deep into some lost prehistoric alien tomb, or your army is advancing on the opposing force of evil cultists intent on summoning some horror to end civilization, you can't do it without tentacle terrain and props.
But why settle for just tentacles?
When you realize that most mythos deities go unseen throughout the story, all sorts of unnamable and nebulous appendages open up!
The only thing worse than knowing you will be slaughtered and devoured by something is being slaughtered and devoured by something so vast that only it's massive jaw tipped finger will fit through the opposing aperture.
Not knowing what something looks like is sometimes far more terrible than the reality.
So post up some tartarian tendrils and lets kick this shit to the curb!

First, these lovelies from Monsterpocalypse
One is a sprue of several long snaky limbs sprouting from the ground. Four variations of this are available, but they're all just the same figure repainted.
(http://i50.tinypic.com/11hf491.png) (http://i48.tinypic.com/av61ky.png)
The other, the tower of corruption is a large eye stalk snaking it's way around some peace of cyclopean masonry... or maybe it's just a building...

Reaper has this nice sprue of bits and parts with some tentacles form misc other minis they've put into production.

Then they have the much beloved well of doom. <3
(http://i45.tinypic.com/2nh3nno.jpg)

And this... thing which I think is supposed to be a D&D beholder has quite a few eye stalks that would function wonderfully as some beast emerging head first from a portal.

They also have a purple worm which would be great as a vast thick limb terminating in a slurping maw filled with razor sharp teeth
(available in plastic and pewter apparently)
(http://i49.tinypic.com/bdveia.jpg) (http://i48.tinypic.com/i1fbpd.jpg)

Warhammer's got this Vemonthrope thing that's got many multiple long stinging tendrils...
I'm sure you could think of something for it. :/

I've got the tower from Monsterpocolapse.  Wish I pulled the four tentacles.....

What?
Two days and you guys couldn't turn up more tentacles?
I'm disappointed.
Disappointed because I HAVE A WHOLE ARSENAL OF TENTACLED MINIS PREPARED FOR JUST SUCH AN OCCASION! MWA HA HA HA!

The blood worm by  khurasan would be cool proboscis or something.
From their on site description they tower over 15MM figures and give 25MM figs a run for their money.

I'm not sure if this Blackcat bases crate is even in production yet, but it's got some nice looking limb sprues.

Otherworld has this roper with some long outreaching tendrils.
Perfect for chopping off and sticking in a wall mounted portal!

This Eastern Front fathoms deep Bastard of The Sea figure has some nicely sculpted squid like arms.
And gods is it ever ugly.
Look at it.
It disserves to be cut up and used as bittage.
It's just so damn unimaginative!
But, unfortunately it's an endangered OOP figure as far as I know.
May be hard to get a hold of.

Scotia Grendal has this swamp creature.
And he in turn has four useful tentacles.
(http://i46.tinypic.com/2dubczd.jpg) (http://i50.tinypic.com/4ut0zk.jpg)

Flagship's kraken is a pretty pleasing figure and it's tentacles should be just as pleasing.

I can't remember who makes this kraken, but it's around the size of a dinner plate.
It's got a bunch of diverse constricting coils that make for endless possibilities.
It's also $50, an expensive sacrifice but well worth it says I.

Lance and laser have the walktapus and the tentacled plague worm.
(http://i45.tinypic.com/20zz1wi.jpg) (http://i45.tinypic.com/abton6.jpg)
While both are certainly pretty, they're also out of print.
I don't know about you, but I couldn't bear to slice walktapus up. ;___;

D&D's official lines have a Demogorgon figure
(http://i49.tinypic.com/288mdqt.jpg)

And come to think of it, so does Reapers!
Reaper also produces this "goroloth" (totally not an aboleth.)

Then back to the D&D plastics, we have a wide range of selection.

Two Otyughs, one awesome and one ugly as sin.
(http://i50.tinypic.com/2i8925g.jpg) (http://i46.tinypic.com/nwney9.jpg)
Tentacles with spikes AND eyes.

This Grick would be useful.
While this grick is UGLYUGLYUGLY and should be a pleasure to hack up for spare parts.

The grell has a good amount of twisting coiling barbed tendrils that offer loads of promise.

Three beholder models -all of which are awesome- offer us some fine eye stalks.
(http://i45.tinypic.com/t6uow3.jpg) (http://i48.tinypic.com/v2w6xh.jpg) (http://i46.tinypic.com/zveaf5.jpg)

A lovely purple worm which makes for a horrific eldritch mouth or maybe a dhole
(http://i48.tinypic.com/xpvhaq.jpg)

Two displacer beasts~
(http://i47.tinypic.com/2rqon0x.jpg)

A nice chaos beast who would make a dandy Shoggoth
(http://i46.tinypic.com/skxmcz.jpg)

And this Balhannoth that could make an even better one!

An awesome roper sculpt, which seems way to cool to do any dismemberment IMHO.

And last this Aboleth.
You can't see it from this picture, but it's not a very pleasing figure.
A few small snaky appendages on him though.

See if you guys can scrounge something up so I don't have to do all the work. ;)

Also this Pirate VS. Sea Monster figure was just released by reaper. lol

No idea how big it is, but $19.99 tells me it's of a decent size.

If you go to one of the unpainted illustrations you see little white triangles on the side of the image - those are 1/2" and 1" high.

Guh
I really hope someone other than me plans to use this information...

Anyway
Dreamblade, a discontinued Wizards of the coast line and game has some cool little tentacular creatures.
Come to think of it, the whole line is nice.
Pretty much every figure in it is a monumental piece of work.
Most however have horrible paint jobs that mar otherwise good figures.
http://dreamcatcher.wizards.com/dreamcatcher.aspx
Only site I know of that has most of them up in a picture description form.

Their dreadmorph ogre would be useable even without it's extra appendages.

Gateway to psychosis is a door.
A door with something horrible coming out of it!

Hellshrieker
(http://i49.tinypic.com/2hydvsz.png)

Octorilla may be one of my favorite figures, let alone ideas ever.

Mr. Friend is badly in need of a new paint job, but he has some creative limbs.

Unwishing well
Robot tentacles!

Home-made ones I did yonks and yonks ago from Milliput and the chopped-up tube from inside a biro for the suckers.

Paint jobs are a bit pants, but they were fun to make.

I have that squid mini, and I never thought he was that rare. He is in a pack called Perseus and the Kraken I think and I see it come available often enough...in fact it may still be available from Iron Wind or whatever the european ral Partha is calling itself these days. Great sculpt though.

Here are some tentacles I am working on as they menace a pair of shipwrecked dwarves. They are made from Sculpey and will eventually get painted and based for use in Pygmy Horror.

I've been rooting through the Lost Minis Wiki when I found this chap, the "Nautilus, Giant Squid" which was a Barry Minot figure.
http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:Minot-ohh-cgm10.jpg
It's not very pretty, and I doubt that you can still get ahold of one, but it sure as hell would be a useful beastie.
I really wish I could give some more info on it, but it's just another of those dark eldritch secrets lost and better left forgotten.  :?

Then good old Grenadier has this awesome Kraken.

I'd forgotten all about the Barry Minot figures - date back to the mid 1970s so I doubt very much that you'll find them now.

There is also a RAFM tentacle man:

And since I found RAFM great C. was not nearly tentacled enough, I sligthly converted it:

Sorry everyone, I am soooo new to this type of forum.  I am basically here because my father owned a Hobby Shop from the 1960's thru early 1980's and in his stock I found some Barry Minot Fantasy Figures , including Nautilus here. I have 12 lot s of these figures online and was wondering if anyone could give me any insight on the God/Goddesses, Amazons, Greek Warriors and Monsters range - ie : Medusa and Nautilus some sort of two headded monster and weathered tree.
