nowadays i'm working on some modular parts for making your own medieval houses:
- modular wooden roof
- windows and door tiles, with shutters and glasses (with net pattern)
- wooden supports for upper floors, with decorations,
- crates and chairs
- tables and other stuff
- modular wooden floor
- small pieces of roof to put over the windows
that's what i'm working at the moment...
i'm working on these actually for myself, i wanna make a small village, and with those parts it will be REALLY FAST: the only need is to cut the foam parts (i use the cardboard polistyrene), and i suppose that it will take a couple of hours (plus planning the blueprint) for a hole houses
any suggestions?

Wooden roof as in shingled roof, or planks?
Something which would make building buildings (huh?!) easier would be to have straight sticks of textured wooden beams that you cut to size to use on corners, for roof supports, upper floor supports etc.
Corner beams would be especially useful as you could construct a house body from a single piece of foam core which you then only score and fold. Almost no glue (last joint would have to be glued ofcourse). This leaves a gap in each outside corner joint where a wooden beam could be glued. Would look nice, add strength to the model and help speed up the process.
BTW, judging by your war machines I'd be interested in some stuff like this. =)

maybe i explained badly, but it was exactely what i'm making! :)
for the corner stuff, it is pretty hard to cast them, so i'll make them for last.... also because using balsa is pretty easy to make wooden corners! :)

Isn't that basically what Pardulon does? Of course there can never be to many good buildings around. So you might take a look at the Pardulon homepage for inspiration... (Hm, I am not interfering with any buisness here, am I???).

lol, don't worry, i sometimes chat with Jens (the pardulon guy!), and i do agree with you:
but there are few differences: i'm making essentially fantasy (or at least historical) parts, and mine are much less suitable for selling, made essentially for myself! :)
actually, i hope to sell some of them, but with the materials i'm using i can't think about a serious business....
and who know, maybe i can send my masters to jens, if he is interested!

True, but it has to be processed for wood grain texture. I'm lazy like that... =) I wouldn't mind seeing pieces which require little to no work except trimming and gluing. Just glue together, undercoat and paint using washes and drybrushing. =)

anyway, i think that for me (i don't have the vacuum chamber) is pretty complicated to make a bi-valve mould, so for now i can just texture for you the balsa, if you need, is not a big trouble for me! :P
this evening i'm gonna make the first moulds:
- simple roof (shingled)
- simple window frame
- simple door frame
friday morning i'm gonna leave the town for 3 days, i hope i'll work a lot on new improvements! :)
actually, i have again to say that all my stuff are meant to be applied on a foam structure, so phreedh needs still to work a bit with hobby knife and glue, to make the base structure.
the nice part is that you can make some completely customized building with a really cheap price!

you mean the one of the orc's drift?
i dunno, i'm shure that painted with the proper style should take a similar look.
for the lifting and similar, it is all up to you: i'm not casting buildings, just modular surfaces: roofs, floors, windows frames.... everything must be fixed on a cardboard (foam and card) structure, so you can make whatever you want with this! :)

For some time I have been wanting to finally scratch-build some houses. I was going to use bits from Antenociti's Workshop but I'll gladly support LAFers' quality products instead. And a bit of variety is always great.

first cast: resin wooden roof! it is made of two parts casted toghether: this way is easier to cut it in two parts, or join another half for a 3/2 long roof (the most common, i guess)

as you can see, there are some nails on some tiles, not all them but some... i think that when painted it will give a nice look to the roof!
more pics when painted, many other stuff coming out!!!
please tell me your impressions, i need them for my next works! :)
EDIT: maybe you didn't notice, but there are the hidden board behind the tiles, so there are some "bumps" on the middle of the modular part.

i painted it relatively fast, but i like the effect... i think that in real live is better!
i forgot to say that it is 12 x 12 cms: the tiles are smaller than in much of the other 28mm buildings!
BTW, here there are some 28mm building i casted for a shop! actually i cant sell them, but... 8)

Looking great! I'd love to see close ups of the completed buildings with a mini next to them for scale reference.
What shop did you make them for? I assume that shop will sell them later?
The window frames look good too. I like the fine grain on them.

the site is still under construction, you'll have to wait till september!
if you have any particular ideas, please let me know this evening, since tomorrow i'm leaving for 3 days, with my traveller-modeller kit... :P
if you tell me something, it is possible that i sculpt it quite fast!
now i'm thinking about some doors, a pillory, some crates and maybe some wooden boards to "decorate" the buildings... :)

yeah! now back to work (passed a couple of exams, so now i've a bit more time... not much but still something!)
now i'm gonna work on the door and some window glasses. then i think i will have to think about some other covering stuff.

in those day i've worked a bit but the exams are really heavy right now, so... i'm afraid you'll have to wait a while. before starting casting i would like to make some different stuff! :)

don't have any suggestions for medieval especially.
stuff one can buy at a marketplace seems always useful and is pretty generic in baskets, sacks and barrels, especially if done seperately.
what would also plese my heart would be some 18-19C furniture, but I understand this is difficult

I simply "wasted" a lot of my time at Your age on nice distractions, and I see You are talented :)
old furniture could be a bit difficult because it is quite fragile in 28 mm, but go ahead, try a chair :)

lol, i've a LOT of distraction, but i still take some energies for my study
small update: i've painted the windows, even if the glass is missing.. :)
everything starting from a foam cardboard, covered with some acrylic modelling paste, then i've added some horrible holes, covered with my life-saver windows! :)

been pretty busy for my exams and for [url = http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=10619.0] my BIG inn project [/url], i've sulpted a few stuff:
new stuff done: some "sostegno - please translate" for the upper larger roofs, and a lot of details for the building: chains, a cross, ropes and signs! :)
