Has anyone used these as non Turks? seems like with the separate head system you could build a number of different armies.
-
One member has converted them to Spanish Civil War Nationalists with some success: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=14946.0

Great idea. Should have thought of that before. Cheers to you both!

I'm thinking of using them to do Cameroon Schutztruppe askari. Just have to get some of the separate Senegalese heads they sell and remodel their fezzes into the peculiar style they wore in Cameroon from Green Stuff. Perhaps not 100% right, but damn near it.

At last, someone who wants to game the war OUTSIDE German East Africa. Huge fan of Lettow-Voebeck, but it's nice to see some additional stuff come up. Am very dismayed that the stuff for Southwest Africa and Togo from HLBS has apparently gone unpurchased.
Please share those photos when you get around to doing them up, Plynkes!

It's just an idle fancy at the moment, but it wouldn't be difficult to do. Finding the time among all my other projects is the only obstacle. :)

Just had a look and it seems the Turks are mostly modelled with annoying furry backpacks, which don't look right for the Cameroons.
Option A: Ignore them, pretend they are right. Carry on.
Option B: Painstakingly hack them off and remodel the messy remains into smaller packs and blanket rolls.
Hmm...
-
Option C purchase te Brigade Games or Copplestone Turks, which don't have backpacks, furry or otherwise, and pray that the Woodbine heads fit.
-
I had it in my mind that the Woodbine fellows were a bit small for that, but I just held one of their heads up to a Brigade Turk and do you know what, I think they would be fine. There is of course a head to remove, but a head comes off more easily than a backpack.
Good idea, thanks. :)
-
There is also a second pack of Woodbine Turks with out packs.
-
Oh yes. Missed that. Ta.
-
OK Plynkes you have the stuff go on.
But what about cameroon askari lancers?
-
So... a question. Would the Woodbine heads fit Copplestone bodies? I'm thinking specifically of the Indian heads and the British bodies. This looks like the cheapest way of making acceptable Indian Army troops for the 1930s. Thoughts gents?
-
I don't have any Indian heads but I can do a comparison photo with some other Woodbine heads and a Copplestone Brit if you like, then you can judge for yourself. I'll get on that a bit later after work.
Going back to Gripping Beast Turks: It looks to me that the Turks without full kit that the Grey Ghost mentioned aren't part of the separate head system. There are no options to pick heads with them. Looks like they come as full figures with either with Enver Pasha hats, fezzes or little skull cap type things. I think you get a random assortment. I have ordered some so I'll soon be able to tell you.
-
They don't come with the separate heads?!?
Darn, I was hoping they did.
-
Well there isn't any option to pick different head types with Section Pack One (no kit except belts), like there is with Section Pack Two (full kit), so I assume they are single-piece castings.
-
Oh well I've already swapped heads on the Turkish command packs so I guess I will have to do a lot of head swapping on the infantry to.

For Carlos:

A bit small maybe. Might be okay. Give it a week or so (or however long they take to send them) and I'll have some of the Indian heads to give you an even better idea.
I take it you have something like this in mind,

That would be cool. Reckon Hammers will be at it next if he sees this and the thought gets in his head.

Many thanks Plynkes, that's precisely what I had in mind, although why some bugger doesn't already make them is anyone's guess, grrrrr.......... :)
