Title: Refilled the Mini Case
Post by: True on July 14, 2010, 02:44:22 AM
Last year after Pygmy, I had a request to run again and as a result, I never returned any of my minis to their case. I also didn't run Pygmy a second time and so all in all it was a bit of a lost year. As I am off for the summer, I decided it was time to put everything back. By everything, I really mean all that would fit.

Yes indeed, quite a marvellous collection...  ;D

You need to take a few close ups.

Close-ups from bottom to top.

You won't find any Pygmies in the case though, they are in the second case but that one has a fixed front door so any photos just bounce the flash off the glass.

Thanks for the kind words...

A beautiful thing to behold.  The sheer insanity of different genres mixed together is stunning.  :o

It's funny...I was never quite sure where to post most of what we do on this forum due to the subdivisions for various genres. What you guys see as a mix I see as a unified whole in that we run a very odd fantasy world. I lean toward steampunk and Lost World. My writing partner is high fantasy all the way and our graphic design guy is pure sci-fi. We roll it all together and it comes out something that makes sense to us and looks a bit wild on the board. In the end it is all so overwhelmingly huge that few people question it too much. Each year I actually wait for the conflict of genres comment when people notice a Chinese Junk and a Native American Longhouse together or an Egyptian Ruin and a European castle. We sort of roll with the comments and add something weirder next time.

The other fun question we get each year is, "Does this come in a kit?"

All I can really do is chuckle, look over the 130 sq. ft. table and say, "no".

Flamin' 'eck ther are some nice stuff in your stash. =) Like the Kiss squigs!

There's a mini in this pic: http://images.boardgamegeek.com/images/pic762908.jpg

Brown giant type fella with a log, between a winged insectoid and the hook handed cyclops. Top left-ish. Hill Giant from Splintered Lights, right? I love that sculpt. Want to get one, but have been unsure of the size. That's a 40x40 base he's on?

Yes the Kiss squigs are #1! #2 is the 1930/s drunken ghosts, #3 is the freebooter flying boat with the sweet Egyptian motif, #4 the Larry, Curly, Moe three headed giant, and #5 the steampunk giant robot guy.

So did you guys start out with a system like hordes of things? Or were you guys flat on crazy from the gate?

Again, thanks for all of the kindness. As to the Giant, he is actually a Metal Magic sculpt from the early 90's but I think I heard that the large Metal Magic pieces were picked up by another company so you may very well be right. He is on a 40mm base and measures about 2.25 inches tall.

The KISS squigs were just an odd idea I got one day looking at a drain plug that had cut outs that reminded me of Peter Criss' makeup, and so I had to paint them. They have sadly been only rarely used in a gaming setting so I am glad you enjoyed them. The Drunken ghosts make an appearance in the graveyard section of our Pygmy board as a potential non-combat encounter and the Mo'gre, as he is affectionately known is a personal favorite of mine as well. The Steampunk Robot is actually a 15mm piece from the Demonworld line. They made some really underrated lead in their time and I ended up with that piece in the pre-internet era when my writing partner, who is German, visited family in Europe and came back with some cool lead.

As most artists like nothing more than having people ask about there work...thanks. It is always nice to think about and recount the paths that all of my little lead buddies have wandered down. And as to systems...pretty much flat on crazy from the gate. My first big event game was 23 years ago and was based on the Claydonia rules from Dragon magazine. We built a whole play-dough adventure that took 14 hours to play and ended in an ice cave (made of real ice) and a giant remote controlled play-dough dragon. Yup...freekin nuts.

You can get a lot of the Metal Magic minis from Mega Minis, for cheap to boot! Not the best minis in the world, but some are pretty useful as they're just $1.50 and the international shipping is dirt cheap (and usually fast!).

It seems that giant is the same as David over at Splintered Light have:

I was reluctant to buying them, due to the category (15mm) - but now when I've pinned it down to Metal Magic 28 mm giant trolls, I'm confident in buying. =) There's a pic here of them, painted up:

Hi Peter...

Thanks for noticing the Elan Merch wraiths. They are actually the prize of my whole collection. I traded for most of them back when I was in elementary school (I think I got the bulk of that unit in 5th grade). The problem was that I was missing the leader piece. My buddy either did not have him or wouldn't swap for him. I spent 20 years working to complete that set and finally did a couple of years ago. We all have our holy grails and he was mine. I have even left them in their original paint scheme. They are simply black with a lime green drybrush to pick up the details and give them an otherworldly appearance. It was good enough in 1978-9 so it is good enough now. When I got the leader, I gave him the same treatment and put him on the shelf.

Go XTC

The display case is a cd case from Ikea. They don't sell that model any longer but they have a few options that might work.
