Title: Lt. Kara Black
Post by: dwartist on 14 July 2010, 10:21:31 AM
Kev White's wonderful sculpt excellently produced by Studio McVey. Please forgive the slightly blurry images...

Love it. That ammo belt looks like a right hindrance in combat, though. I can see it getting caught in things and her tripping over it and such.

Where does the name come from? Cara Black is a tennis player from Zimbabwe.

Wow, she look great.  I really like that camo.

Realistic skin tones, muted camouflage scheme, well thought out colours...excellent :).

Apart from the ridiculous ammo feed, I love the mini and the Warthog really goes well with your finished version.  Great work all round.

The weapon and ammo drum/feed etc are very silly- you'd never be able to carry it, much less fire it in any position other than prone - but she is still a gorgeous mini and the paintwork is outstanding.

Sorry, I'm not a Halo fan, so is the APC a conversion of the standard Warthog model, or is it available to buy? It would make a great Police tactical close-support vehicle.

Fantastic job on both models, Dwartist!

Antenociti's G.O.T. Warthog...

 :o

I've looked at the G.O.T. range several times but have never noticed that before. For some reason I've only been looking at the figures. Buffoon!   ::)

I certainly recognize the camo! It looks even better on Antenociti's site.

Cheers  :D

Love the figure!

I've been painting mine on and off (mostly off) since the beginning of the year.  If it comes out only half as good as yours, I'll be pleased!

I really like it.

Sure firing a gun that big with an ammo setup like that is totally unrealistic. The rule of cool does make it okay though, not to mention it's easy enough to say she was moving the gun to a new position and was forced to open fire. Or its some near future gun that allows for firing in rediculous ways.

Yeah its made of advanced super light and super durable alloys complete with next gen recoil compensators :D

Well, of course, the gun is over-size  :o and she is super-dudette  :-* to be able to fire it off hand.  Logic is irrelevant, it's Science Fiction!   o_o

Oh wait,  :o that (along with oversized Fantasy melee weapons) what John the OFM rants about on TMP.   ;)   ;D

Joking aside, very nice work on the figure.  I would be jealous if I had half the skill.

Gracias,

Glenn

Excellent mini, and an excellent paint job! The Warthog isn't half bad either ;)
Kev White - I can't remember. Is that Hasslefree? She'd be perfect for my Salvage Boss for Star Mogul, so if you can confirm, that would be great. I love this site - just when you thought it was safe to surf the net again, somebody posts up a wonderful figure, and my resolve crumbles.

Yep, Kev White is the Hasslefree guy, but he sculpted this for McVey studios.

She might be a bit big to fit in nicely with Star Mogul....I'm thinking she is a 35mm figure.

Well, your completely plausible scientific explanation has me convinced!

Super-light alloys, recoil wotsits and gyro-stabilisation it is, then  :D

When I get around to buying one, I'll just paint her with black hair and dark skin and call her "Vasquez"  lol

Ah, that's a shame, Supervike - lovely mini! And the rule of cool rules, of course...

Where does the name come from? Cara Black is a tennis player from Zimbabwe.

A mix of Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Battlestar Galactica character) and Claudia Black (Farscape, Pitch Black and Stargate SG1 actress) perhaps?

Or "K Black" because the sculptor is "K White"?

..... and Claudia Black (Farscape......

Ah yes, now that's a mini I'd love to see in production...

I keep hearing her voice on video games. Is that all she does these days?
Title: Re: Lt. Kara Black

Yeah for the last 3 years or so (according to imdb), she's been doing pretty much only VA work for games, with the odd one off appearance in a couple of TV shows. Between Farscape and Stargate she was working for nearly 10 years straight on just those 2 shows so maybe she felt she needed a break
 :)

It's been quite some time since I've looked at the McVey site, this may cost me a few quid. The mini of the sorceress half way through summoning the big demon thing is utterly stunning, and I'm quit taken by the old cyber/future hoverboard chick too. And the ranger girl with the hawk.

Nice mini, just hope/wish that Kev does a version in 'proper' scale as my colonial marines are itching for some support like her!  :-*

Hasslefree is Kev White's own company; as dwartist noted, Studio McVey is producing this minature.

I have looked at her a few times - really nice mini, but like others I find the gun rather silly.  Combined with a hefty price tag, that element has kept me from purchasing her.  If she were cheaper, or had a better-proportioned weapon, I would almost certainly have picked her up.  You did such an excellent job painting her, though, that I am tempted all over again.

It's sentences like this that make Mrs Maximus very suspicious of my on-line activities  :o

 lol  ;)

I agree 100%, though. It's a shame Kev hasn't done a more "realistic" version of her to fit in with his other sci-fi adventurers range, as she is otherwise fantastic and would make a great mercenary or salvage crew personality figure.
