Hello All
After reading about the armoured train in production at Company B I have been inspired to have a bash myself.
Its going to be loosely based on the Nr 10 imeni Rozy Luxembourg, there is a pic on
(http://www.captaingeneral.co.uk/photo_luxemburg.jpg)
If anyone is able to assist with the Russian script on the carriage i would be grateful
Here is the loco and tender

This is my first attempt at uploading images if I fail please have a look on the website

They load fine mate but you need to resize them, they're huge!
-
oops i'll get right on it, thanks for the tip :freak:
-
Very cool idea! This will certainly spice up a game, and it looks great so far :)

Nice work :)
-
Looks good so far, what are you doing for wheels ?
-
I've been lucky to pick up a lot of wheels from ebay. When i've finished the train i will have a load left over so if anybody needs some just get in touch. No cost, just the postage.
I'll post a picture of the wheels later on if people are interested.
Trouble is real life is getting in the way of painting and model making. :x

It's obviously a WW2 train but should give you an basis for construction (the locomotive is WW1 vintage though).

This is a Polish armoured train but gives a good idea of a typical formation.
More useful information and pictures here:

Hope you find this helpful? I can't wait to see the finished results!

Thanks Boggler
Very useful, I was concerned it may have been a bit too large, but photos including soldiers standing nearby prove these things were beasts!
Next up will be a gun car with a turret at both ends and a troop compartment in between. I might cheat and try and score an O gauge double bogie flat car to use, they do attract good prices on ebay tho'
GRIMM thanks mate any advice on colour schemes would be appreciated.
olive green, grey or sand or camo?
Thanks everybody, as it looks like rain this weekend i hope to have some more to show by Sunday.

Very, very neat, and makes me want to reprise my own cardboard Armoured Train project instead of waiting for Company B´s...
Only quibble: Looks like you used foamboard to construct the body? The pins deformed the surface when you pressed them in, those pits are a tad bit ugly.
But otherwise, very nice.
-
Paint it olive green pease
-
Thanks for all the helpful comments Guys
You are right CW I was using foam core board.
Yes pushing the pins in has dented what should be flat plate armour plate.
Having now taken shipment of some plasticard i will try some on the guncars and turrets and see how that fairs.
GRIMM Green it shall be!!

YYYYYHHHHHHHAAAAAA  can´t wait

If you go re-animating a thread which lay dormant for more than two years, there just *might* be the chance that the pics originally associated with it have dropped off the web. For whatever reason.
-
true, but the site is still online.
Isn't the member on board anymore?
OK, I can put it somehow different:
"Oh, the thread is 2 years old, but I am still curious to see the pictures, since the topic "armoured train" has become quite hot again. could You please reactivate the links?" ;)
after all, the "see new replies..." engine still works right?

Dear former user
I have dug out some of the pics of my "foamboard and nails" armoured loco.
This was the original inspiration
(http://www.captaingeneral.co.uk/Warpics/photo_luxemburg.jpg)
And this model (not mine!)
Early stage construction...

Later

End stage with wheels attached...
Sad to say I did not think it was upto scratch and it has been consigned to the Bin!
Lucky I still have the pics.

Is there any guidance on the longevity required on LAF?
Cheers
Hope you like them!
CG :)
-
sorry to hear that
looked good to me
why did You scrap it?
-
Thanks former user, as I said, it wasn't upto the standard I had set myself. :-[
Who knows maybe I'll try again one of these days.
-
I had a lot of builds "not up to my standard", but I kept them and modified them
so I learned a lot about my mistakes - but anyone with his own approach :)
