Title: Early War Weird WWII
Post by: pixelgeek on 20 July 2010, 04:57:15 AM
I was just curious why there aren't more Early WWII Weird War settings and rules?

The recent question about the Poles got me thinking about Early War actions and settings and I wonder if anyone has done one already. It seem as if most of the material I have seen has been well into the war or past the historical end date in order to get more goodies in but I was actually interested in gaming the early war with the Poles, French, Brits and the lighter German tanks.

Ahem, early war is fully established in Gear Krieg!

Even the GK comic line "Alfies Tenners" is set during the invasion of France.
All the light walker are there: Loki, Walküre, General Early, Cavalier...

Which book has the background in it? The Core Rules or does one of the RPG books have more background material?

I'm only interested in gaming in 28mm but some inspiration in terms of background would be handy

The core rulebook:
Gear Krieg Tactical Rulebook - http://www.wargamevault.com/product_info.php?products_id=1220&it=1&filters=0_0_0 (http://www.wargamevault.com/product_info.php?products_id=1220&it=1&filters=0_0_0)
Part of it is also in my GK book (http://www.wargamevault.com/product_info.php?products_id=63973&filters=0_0_0 (http://www.wargamevault.com/product_info.php?products_id=63973&filters=0_0_0)), but you will find more in the Tactical Rulebook ...

My book has the 1st couple of pages from the Tactical book in it. Nothing changed.
Only Banzai expanded the established GK line...

In case anyone is wondering about dates, the core Gear Krieg book covers the war from the beginning to early 1942 (which means Early War for the Americans).

They don't really do a lot with the history though and its basically the same historical progress with the addition of Walkers and some other pulp-tech.

I have to disagree here; it is just not completely over the top like later Weird War backgrounds.
IMO it is one of the best background just because it is only slightly altered.
But all the weird stuff is in, walkers, supersoldiers, zombies, oni, power armour soldiers, rockets SS trooper, US helitrooper etc etc etc
Also please bear in mind that the story line is not finished, it stops somewhere during late war, the "end" is open...

Different tastes I suppose. I want something a little more changed/altered. All of these units, technologies and magic should have some impact on the war.
