Hello everyone,
After lurking for many months, thought I should actually join. Don't actually do much painting but my current project is playing the same ancient battle over and over with different fast play rules. Have done 4 so far. Documented at:

Be careful, this place might inspire you to try something different :D
Welcome to the LAF :)

Welcome to LAF 8)

re: Same battles over and over - I've done 5 and I think 4 times the same side won. I do try a couple of different tactics with each game but a lot of it goes the same way. But the mechanisms to get that result are often very different - mostly the command & control rules creates the most significant divergence. Melee and shooting is really similar results (-ish).

Welcome!
I checked out the blog and battle reports- great idea. :) What other rules do you have in the pipeline?

RE: what rules am I using to replay Callinicum:
There is a page that does list the rules I've done and thinking of doing:
http://shaun-wargaming-minis.blogspot.com/p/rules-used-for-callinicum.html
But to save anyone going there, I am doing Basic Impetus next (lined up and waiting for the spare time), then DBA (worked out the deployment and troops already) and hopefully DBM100. I may not do Impetus after all as, for Callinicum, I think it will run over an hour due to the number of units.
I am thinking of moving onto another battle soon but I am torn between doing a few more (after the 3 above) and doing a classical infantry line battle to see how the rules stack up compared to Callinicum which is mostly cavalry. The ones I would like to also cover that i have as maybes are Age of Might and Steel (if I can make it work on 2'x2', C and C Ancients, Might of Arms and Fast Play Ancient Warfare. The last two especially as I've had the rules for 8-10 years but have never played them.

Bezzo,
"Guy! There is a world out there. I applaud your dedication but I think maybe the time has come to widen your horizons?"
I have been gaming for around 30 years...although not much in the last 10 or so due to other things, and recently two children. So I have just a small amount of time, thought I would give something back and do a few rules reviews and road test fast play ancient rules and share that experience.
At least, that is how I justify it in my own mind! I may be a little mad but we probably all are a little bit. I don't get out much at the moment...
I must spend a couple of hours a week on the replays max, including the thinking about them...so at least it isn't taking over my life. I am also getting into 6mm ww2 and resisting the temptation to pick a battle and replay it over and over with different ww2 rules :-) [I'm not going to! Honest! no really....]
