Title: New adobe houses painted 16/08/10
Post by: Malamute on 25 July 2010, 07:11:07 PM
I don't usually post photos of these until they are finished, but thought it might make a change to see them just based and ready to paint.

A pair of small houses guarded by two Boot Hill Texians.

Just make sure you expose the brickwork and nothing else. Ewwwwwwww!

Nice work as usual, you must be able to put these together quite quickly by now.

Base coat over the whole model inc ground with Humbrol Matt Sand 63 or similar.

Raw umber artists acrylic wash around the bottom of the building, where the walls meet the earth and also wash the ground too, especially where there are doorways and gates with the same paint, but more diluted.

Heavy wetbrush of GW Bleached bone or similar shade around the top of the walls gradually working down towards the base with the brush getting dryer until slight drybrush near base of wall, leaving some of the sand colour and the umber wash at the base showing. The effect should give the impression of the colours getting lighter towards the top of the house.

Next wetbrush white around the roof moving downwards as before, but leaving more of the Bleached Bone colour showing.

When all dry drybrush base with off white shade.

Paint doors and all exposed timbers with wash of raw umber, quiet diluted so the grain of the balsa shows through. The less water you add the darker the paint will dry. Drybrush with Bleached Bone or similar.

Yep, one of those bizarre things you read about is the lack of windows.  Built that way for safety from indian attacks etc.

Excellent!!!!   :o

At the moment I am playing Red Dead Redemption on PS3 and the guys who made it must have stolen their textures from pics of your buildings ... they look exactly the same ... and they look most fantastic!  :-*

More please ...  ;D ;D ;D

You could add some handy dice modifiers here: -1 for stubbed toe, -2 for chair in unexpected place...

Superb work padrone  :-*

What about a ladder for roof access, it'll put value on the property and make it more attractive to prospective buyers  ;)

The trouble with selling these is they never make it past the structural survey, let alone the poor location, as you know its all about location. Values have fallen dramatically lately what with the rise in Indian attacks, roving bandit gangs, not too mention the abundance of rattlesnakes etc. San Antonio is not the twee location it used to be when the Spanish lived there...  :(  ;)
