Title: British Infantry in the 1790s
Post by: The Gray Ghost on 08 August 2010, 08:26:49 PM
Did the British infantry ever wear the bicorne hat?
Also how late could you use the Perry Bros AWI late war British highlanders?
What about Their other British infantry?

The British army did wear the bicorne during the 1790s but also wore other headgear on tropical fronts (that top hat sort of affair). Unfortunately, it would appear that perry highlanders don't fit the bill. I don't think Perry British will fit the bill either as they have the wrong coats/trousers/equipment etc. Some of them might work for tropical fronts with a hat swop though, if you're not too picky about the bags they're carrying. Where were you planning on using them for, Europe or the Caribbean?

Eagle make British infantry in bicornes  and long tailed coatsf or the 1790s. http://eaglefigures.co.uk/

As Adam points out for the tropics you really want figures in round hats and/or the short round about jacket. The familiar closed and laced, Napoleonic style jacket came in around 1798 IIRC. In 28mm Redoubt do a range for Wellington in India and two Dragons did a similar range in 15mm. The latter included figures in later style  jackets, some codes wearing bicornes others a variety of round hats, including the crested version for Grenadier and Light companies.

Eureka have the British on their to do list. It can't be too far off, as they seem to have covered most of the French, Austrians and Russians in fairly quick time.
