I remembered seeing old lead marvel (not sure about DC) miniatures in hobby stores when I was a kid but have never come across any info on whether or not they did exist.
I thought I even saw watchmen at some point.
It was years ago and hard to remember
thanks to anyone who might have info

I wish I had more info, but you are correct. I only ever saw a Daredevil and a Wolverine in the local comic shop. I think they may have been pewter though and not lead.

I remember the old TSR game Marvel Super Heroes published in 1984. I think TSR worked with someone to produce a very limited set of figures. I always wanted those since i was pretty active with RPG's and was reading tons of Marvel comics back then.
I tried hunting down the images on the web, but havn't found much. Sorry

According to Wikipedia there were five sets of miniatures. Unfortunately, there aren't any pictures.

Grenadier produced the Watchmen set. They had a license for some of the other DC series(like Batman or Justice League), too.
I used to have the Watchmen set.
The miniatures certainly are of collector's value, but unfortunately, the sculpts are not the best. The figures are quite small for 28mm, more true 25mm scale. I still have the Rorschach lying around somewhere, but never painted him, because of the uninspiring sculpt.
Have a look here:

I registered to post this reply when this thread was fresh but have only just got on. Hopefully still of interest to you.
There were 5 sets made by TSR of D&D fame in the mid eighties. Here are 3 of them (pictures knicked from SOL)

Perhaps looking a little jaded compared with Heroclix etc. but boy would I like to get my hands on them again now - and a big hello to all as this is my first post.

I have at least one of those boxes somewhere. A few of the figures might have been eaten by lead rot though...
-
Has Mr. Fantastic put on weight?
Or did he get run over by a steam-roller?
-
steam roller. He is totally flat. He does this sometimes to bounce thrown blunt projectiles (like cars) back on the enemy
edit: ah, I managed to find them, I have the first 2 boxes. Happily, they survived the decades in nice condition. I even have a box for indiana jones!
I also got a few D&D boxes from the same era, some of which got infected with rot which I threw away few years back which was why I was worried about them.

awesome post!!! Thanks for posting the images of those mini's, I remembered them fondly! Wow, they do look a little rough, I would love to see how many of the characters would translate into 28mm in 2007..
