Title: I just received an e-mail which the forum mods might wish to be aware of...
Post by: moif on 19 August 2010, 09:42:11 PM
From Miss Marram Mohammed.
Abidjan. Cote D'Ivoire,
=A0
Hello Dear One,
Dear with profound respect and humble submission, I got your contact in (ww=
w.leadadventureforum.com)=A0I beg to state the following few lines for your kind=
consideration, I hope you will spare some of your valuable minutes to read=
the following appeal with sympathetic mind. I must confess that it is with=
great hopes, joy and enthusiasm that I write you this mail which I know an=
d believe by the faith that it must surely find you in good condition of he=
alth. My name is Miss Marram Mohammed, I am the only Daughter of my late pa=
rents Mr.and Mrs Dandy Mohammed. My father was a highly reputable business =
magnet who operated in the capital of Ivory coast during his days.
It is sad to say that he passed away mysteriously in France during one of h=
is business trips abroad on the 20th May 2008. Though his sudden death was =
linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by an uncle of mine wh=
o travelled with him at that time. But Allah knows the truth! My mother die=
d when I was just 6yrs old, and since then my father took me so special.=20
=A0
Before the death of my father on May 2008, he called me and informed me tha=
t he has the sum of Ten Million, Five Hundred thousand United State Dollars=
.(USD$10,500,000.00) he deposited in a private Bank here in Abidjan Cote D'=
Ivoire.. He told me that he deposited the money in my name, and also gave m=
e all the necessary legal documents regarding to this deposit with the Bank
I am just 20 years old and a university undergraduate and really don't know=
what to do. Now I want an honest and Allah fearing partner overseas who I =
can transfer this money with his assistance and after the transaction I wil=
l come and reside permanently in your country till such a time that it will=
be convinient for me to return back home if I so desire. This is because I=
have suffered a lot of set backs as a result of incessant political crisis=
here in Ivory coast. The death of my father actually brought sorrow to my =
life. I also want to invest the fund under your care because I am ignorant =
of business world.
I am in a sincere desire of your humble assistance in this regards. Your su=
ggestions and ideas will be highly regarded. Now permit me to ask these few=
 questions:
1. Can you honestly help me from your heart?
2. Can I completely trust you?
3. What percentage of the total amount in question will be good for you aft=
er the fund has being transfeered to your account and i come over to meet y=
ou ?=20
Please, consider this and get back to me as soon as possible. Immedaitely I=
confirm your willingness, I will send to you my Picture and also inform yo=
u more details involved in this matter.
Anticipating hearing from you soon.=20
Kind Regards,
Miss Marram Mohammed,

Got the same thing. Most likely they have a bot set up to "click" the email link in your profile with their spam message.

USD$10,500,000?! Wow! How large a portion did you ask for?! I'd go 50/50 and then call Wargames Foundry and ask for one of each.  ;)

The old Nigerian mail scam, eh?

We had a bunch of Queenslanders sucked into that little fraud. One of them was even a lawyer who you think should have known better. This says much about lawyers and my dear northern cousins.

Meh. As the old adage goes: "If it looks too good to be true then it probably is."

The human capacity for self-delusion, particularly when greed overwhelms them, is amazing. It's already gone into my report on your planet. Don't even think about colonising anywhere else.

So with the benefit of hindsight I probably shouldn't have transferred the contents of my account to hers?

I always send them a phone number to get their hopes up. When they call it's a joke line with a voice activated Mr Angry at the other end. The more they talk the angrier he gets.  :)

One shouldn't laugh (well no, maybe we should) but sadly there are plenty of sad and gullible folk out there willing to take the bait, in fact almost any bait. There was a widely reported case of an Australian a couple of years ago who received an invitation, replete with photos to marry a wealthy West African princess, who promised eternal devotion, a substantial cash prize and a life of luxury. He flew to Ghana on the strength of a few exchanged emails and was greeted by two burly men at the airport who promptly bundled him in to a van. He then had a rather expensive two month holiday by himself until his family came up with the ransom sum. Personally speaking, I'm inclined to see it as just another way to transfer devlopment funds from the West to the developing world.

One born every minute......  lol

I actually do have a lovely certificate, designating me an honorary Lt-Col in the US Army, signed by a Major General and all. It used to hang in pride of place in my lavatory.

I get those too... but I don't bother with anything other than what I know or expect.

Everything else and, I do mean everything else, I "mark as Phishing Scam."

That has done wonders to the amount of spam I get.

 ;)

I have not yet received such an enticing email myself, and I have to say I am very disappointed, I thought we lived in a world of equal opportunities where every man woman and child can get scammed at his or her own discretion, but apparently not.

Send me your money YPU. All of your money. You don't need it. I'll send a genuine Nigerian princess to dance around your lounge chair. But only if you send all your money. Oh and your video store card as well.

You would need to go to 60/40 to cover the postage  :'(

For years con men tricked 'old ladies' out of their money - now the number of people you can reach has gone up - such is the impact of modern technology.  Many years ago (and I mean many) my class sat through a talk by the police about con artists and 'the real world' as part of the 'Preparation For Adult Life' course (compulsory) the school ran.  It worked well (never did by the Humber Bridge) - maybe schools should introduce into these type of classes the electronic scams?

I can see that in this wonderful PC world we live in computers coming with health and wealth warnings soon  :o

Jimbib, PM'd you old fruit.

I'm thinking this was a pointless post by me, it's like texting a mate to tell him you've just e-mailed him. Yep, done that too!
