Title: What are the best 28mm figures for Greek Myth games?
Post by: kidterminal on 21 August 2010, 06:37:10 AM
Hi there I'm working on a Greek Myth campaign using Broadsword Adventures and I need some really nice Greek hero figures. I like the Eureka Amazons and Satyrs so I'll be using them in this project. Any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Foundry does a large selection of classical Greek Heroes that might fit the bill.

It's a shame you're not into 40mm, as the Spartan Games Heroes of Myth & Legend range are superb.

As for 28mm: http://www.sbarber-models.clara.net/main.html

There are some nice Greek Mythology models there.  :)

Yes the Bronze Age figures are really nice by they are listed as 32mm so I'm afraid they'll be too tall. Are they taller than Eureka or Foundry?

I like Otherworld but not their satyr; I don't like the recurved bow and shoulder patch. It's not very Greek.

40mm is way too big!! I don't like the Steve Barber stuff it seems a little blocky to me.

These look great! Where can I find them in America?

Thanks for the help so far!

I think you could use some Spartan Games figures mentioned earlier as Titans or gods of some kind.

Mirliton has some centaurs that look kind of nice.

Reaper stocks a few gorgons/mesusas (medusae?) as well.

Alternative Armies has a division called Typhon, which has not only soldiers, but a fine range of monsters.

Ditto on Reaper, search their catalogue for Medusa, they do the best one I've seen.

I like these Immortal Plastic Hoplites for the versatility. Easy to customize and convert for a hero, or use them as followers in a heroe's retinue.

Then there are the Spartans from Tales of War. Now these are heroic looking! No retinue needed...

The Bronze Age minis are  :o :-*, you will want to use nothing else! David is a great guy, and I just can't say enough good things about the minis, and the service!

BA, old Foundry, BA

There is a size difference, but certainly within acceptable limits for skirmish.

Thanks for the comparison shot LeadAsbestos! You wouldn't be able to show then against Eureka or Otherworld centaurs would you?

The Reaper Hercules inspired this project. I applaud Chairface he is really buried deep in Reaper's catalog.

I have been soooo tempted by these figures... but I haven't been pushed over the edge in to getting them yet.

The foundry range are brilliant - but the whole postage thing kills it a bit for me.

I've bought a load of them, I highly recommend giving them a try, even if just for painting up.  :)

The Wargods Olympus line would be a good place to start.Wargames Foundry would be another great source of miniatures.

Bronze Age Hercules:

Don't have the other minis for comp. shot! Sorry...

And, no, I don't work for BA, I just think that it is an underappreciated one-man show that puts out beautiful minis, and could probably use the business! I'm trying to talk him into doing a small line of Romano-Brits in his Heroic style for some Song of Arthur and Merlin, and I hope he is caving in!

If memory serves, Old Glory has some centaur models on the cheap.
Not very nice ones IMO, but they could serve for an encounter or a file and rank situation.

My dear LeadAsbestos,

Here are the horns my dilemma sits squarely upon, the Bronze Age figures are truly wonderful and the price is right, but the line is limited to a dozen figures. I suppose I could add the bikini clad Tales of War Spartans to the mix.
But both these ranges lack archers or peltasts to act as followers for the heroes.

I want some Amazons too, but Bronze Age has on 3. I suppose I could use 28mm, as women are shorter than men. :-I

Here's what I've picked so far;

Here are the Satyrs I plan to use they are from Eureka:
http://eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=87_126_715&products_id=9610
http://eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=87_126_715&products_id=9609

Eureka also has these fine Skeletons:
http://eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=87_126_178&products_id=2087

The Bronze Age figures are a head taller than these which would be fine for the Satyrs but I'm not sure how the skeletons would look with them.

All thoughts and comments welcome.

P.S B. Basiliscus The Bobby Jackson Medusa is hands down the best one ever made. A true copy of the one in the original Jason and the Argonauts film. So we need look no further for her. 8)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu125/kidterminal/LAF%20hosted%20images/Medusa.jpg)

The Crocodile Games Greeks scale up perfectly w/ BA. Good clean sculpts too. The leader types get a bit fiddly, but nothing terrible, and the Rank and file are quite nice.

I've seen some Egyptian stuff, but no the Greeks. Can you show a comparison shot? I understand that the have some peltasts id anyone can show me a picture of these I'd greatly appreciate it.
