28mm Please.
L4D Survivors - (Left to right) - Bill, Zoey, Louis, and Francis.
L4D2 Survivors - (left to right) - Nick, Rochelle, Coach, and Ellis.
You guys know the miniatures manufacturers a lot better than I do and you have never let me down.
-
off the top of my head.
Louis: ray from hasslefree with a head swap maybe
Zoey: sadie b from hasslefree
Frances: joe from hasslefree with the mohawk chopped off
Bill: just about any paramilitary type figure with an open shirt and no body armor. can alwayse sculpt on the beard and beret
not too sure on l42 as ive only got the first one
Rochelle and Ellis: look like they'd be easy to lift from one of the copplestone casting millitia packs or one of the em-4 people.
Nick: there are a ton of guys in casual suits floating arround
coach: maybe tony from hasslefree with his hat filed off?
I think they'd be prety recognisable if you paint them to match the game colors even if the sculpts dont 100% match the game models.
-
For Zoey I immediately thought of Daisy from Crooked dice. A little relaxed but maybe a rifle on her back?

Just to add: (I've also tried to work the headswop quota so you don't waste any minis).
L4D
Louis= Ray with a Ken headswop.
Zoey = Use the kendra body with Kitty head
Bill = check out TAG sure, they'll be a useful military type in there for you.
Francis
L4D2
Coach = Tony with a Ken headswop
Rochelle = Kitty with a Kendra headswop
Nick = E4M (old Grenadier) suit with shades ((http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/0058Suit.gif)) with a Ray headswop.
Ellis = E4M (old grenadier) (http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/0077Rebel.gif) (Male rebel with assault rifle).
Hope this helps.

TAG, Cmdr. Vyp?

TAG = The Assault Group:

Thanks, Pil.
Looking it over now.

The only miniature decapitations I have done have been on the plastic miniatures like Heroclix and Horrorclix.
What methods to you all use to make a good clean cut on a metal mini?
-
I sometimes use a jewelers saw to cut stuff. Most often if I'm not concerned about the piece that I'm leaving behind I just use a small pair of side cutters making sure the flush side of the cutters is to the side I'm keeping. Allowing for some excess material when cutting and filing works to.
-
To be honest as it'll need pining I'd personally either clip/cut or pull and twist. The priority is to keep the body and the head intact, if you bugger up the neck then you can gs it back, not so easy with features or the body.
-
"I'd personally either clip/cut or pull and twist. The priority is to keep the body and the head intact..."
D@MN, Commander!! Sounds pretty gruesome!! Do you work in the double 0 section by any chance?
Tip of the hat to you and "Big Sexy".

I have no idea what you just said Warren, but thanks! ;) :D

TRANSLATION!!!!
When you said "I'd personally either clip/cut or pull and twist. The priority is to keep the body and the head intact...", I thought that was very cold blooded sounding. There for, based on our James Bond comments, I asked if you worked for the double 0 section (i.e. - 007)...
:D :D :D :D lol
-
:D
Shhh, they're little bits of lead and plastic.... ;).
-
Here is what I've come up with... Am only going to do a head swap only if necessary. Personal experience show that famed characters are mostly recognizable, in miniatures, by their clothes. So I'm going to try to get by with just that for the most part.
Zoey = Hasslefree's Kitty. I'm going to modify the stupid bear backpack tho.
Rochelle = Hasslefree's Kendra.
Ellis = EM4 - Male rebel with assault rifle.
Nick = possibly Hasslefree's Frank Cisco. Maybe sling a assault rifle across his back.
Francis = possibly EM4 - Male biker. SMG. Remove the chain?
Louis = Hasslefree's Ray with a Ken headswap.
Coach = Hasslefree's Tony with a Ken headswap.
I looked on TAG for a suitable Bill miniature, but those minis were carrying too much gear. EM4 had some promising ones, but the body armor ruined it for me.
I'm still looking for a mini of a grizzed vet with beard, beret, and fatigues... plus the M-16.
I thought a Bill mini was going to be the easiest one to find. Go figure. ::)
-
Hello,
That's funny because I have the same project and I am looking for suitable miniatures for Left 4 Dead
Here is what I came up with :
Zoey = Hasslefree's Kitty or Sadie (b), not sure yet.
Rochelle = Hasslefree's Kendra.
Ellis = EM4 - Male rebel with assault rifle or Copplestone Future Wars FW21 citizen militia 2.
Nick = EM4 or Copplestone men in black
Francis = Hasslefree's Joe (with a chopped crest)
Louis = Hasslefree's Ken
Coach = Hasslefree's Tony (just remove the cap) or EM4 thug
Now if Copplestone, EM4 and Hasslefree miniatures are compatible in size it's hard to find a suitable miniature for Bill.
My first idea was Ernesto from Reaper but he is one head taller than the Hasslefree miniatures :
http://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/50043
http://www.willowpalecek.com/images/all4green.jpg
The other option is the Gripping Beast Royal Marines :
http://grippingbeast.com/product.php?ItemID=576
http://grippingbeast.com/product.php?ItemID=577
Another idea : The Redstar CWC001 Chechens advancing :
http://www.redstarminiatures.eu/shop_chechen.html
The best would be the SAS 1 set from Empress Miniatures :
http://www.empressminiatures.com/userimages/procart32.htm
Just replace the hat with a beret. And the guy kneeling with the cap could be Ellis (2 suitable miniatures in one pack).
Now the problem deals with the special zombies.
From left to right : charger, hunter, spitter, jockey, tank, witch, boomer, smoker.
here is what I found for the charger, the witch and the boomer (boss zombies from Tengu Models):
http://www.tengumodels.co.uk/userimages/procart2.htm
The Hasslefree mutant Grant could be a charger as well.
For the tank, the best would be Hasslefree's Joe Mutant as the Frothers Unite tanks are oop. A ADD clay Golem could fit too.
The witch could also be any female zombie.
Here are the hunters : Black cat ghouls.
http://blackcatbases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=437_492&products_id=2133
The smoker could be the Helldorado demon :
http://www.helldorado.fr/ressources/secteur/article_id176/original_HtmlArea/dg1_2.jpg
Any ideas for the zombies ? I have no clue for the jockey and the spitter.
All zombies ideas are welcome.
-
Saw this on TMP, and thought of it when you showed Tank.
http://theminiaturespage.com/news/815237/
I don't have the game, so am no judge.
From the piccie you posted, I keep thinking of a character from Ninja Scroll, but that's no help. :D

Frother's Zed set from 2010 has two tanks so sorted if you have the set. Jockey, charger & witch already covered by Cheetor (check the threads god damn it! ;)).
Spitter: use the tengu female character zed and elongate the neck.
-
"Frother's Zed set from 2010 has two tanks so sorted if you have the set." - Are they still available, Cmdr? I thought they for for a limited time only.
"Jockey, charger & witch already covered by Cheetor." - Here's a linky for YIU.
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=15146.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=15146.0)
"Spitter: use the tengu female character zed and elongate the neck." - I concur.
YIU - "the guy kneeling with the cap could be Ellis.." - He would be good!!! Ellis is always snatching up those sniper rifles!
You also have some good "Bill" ideas too! Hell, they are all good ideas!!!
I'm thinking about using HorrorClix Hungry Bertha...
http://www.trollandtoad.com/p161715.html (http://www.trollandtoad.com/p161715.html)
and HeroClix Blob...
http://www.trollandtoad.com/p107031.html (http://www.trollandtoad.com/p107031.html)
for Boomers. Just add green stuff here and there.
Some of my previous fun with Bertha...
As you can see it would not take much to make here a Boomer.
-
Thanks Warrenss2. I didn't know this other thread and it's great. I love the converted jockeys and chargers.
Horroclix minis could be good for chargers too.
Frother's zombies sets are no longer available since january 2010...it's a shame they always sell miniatures for a very short time (3 months). Sometimes Hasslefree casts some of them but the tanks are not in their pipeline I think.
Any other ideas for Bill, the veteran ?
-
Reaper Miniatures will release four new zombie survivors for december and 2 of them would be fantastic for Zoey and Ellis :
http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Previews
Berkeley is really nice too :

OMG!! :o
Those two a darn near perfect for Zoey & Ellis!!
I'm also looking at some of their minis for the Zombieland movie cast.
My players love seeing movie personalities in our games!!! It is a requirement that all players start whistling the A-Team theme song when they arrive on the table in BA's van.

As Hasslefree miniatures are smaller than Reaper ones why not Maria or Kitty for Little Rock ?
-
Nice...
http://www.thewarstore.com/product55743.html (http://www.thewarstore.com/product55743.html)
Anyone have any comments (good or bad) about these minis?
-
I have all Studio Miniatures...except these ones. I think the Reaper ones are far better for Zombieland.
Which miniatures did you finally use for Left4Dead ?
-

Reaper are out of scale with hasslefree as they often end up at 32mm rather than true 28mm of hasslefrassel, (remember scale is all over not just height).

You are right and I avoid mixing them but some Hasslefree miniatures can be used as children (that's what I will do for Zombieland). Some others like Ken are tall enough to mix with Reaper.
-
The issue with most of the potential Tank figures I see is one of size: they seem almost the same size as the humans when they should feel HUGE. I'm starting to get on a Blood Bowl kick again, and I ran across these guys who might be a good start for a conversion for a L4D Tank mini:
http://www.rolljordan.com/public/store//product_info.php?cPath=21_23_27_40&products_id=147&osCsid=hb887oie2u7ro9m4ni7m0hk4o6
Thoughts?

It will be hard to remove the shoulder pads.
Here are some other ideas :
http://www.ddmdb.com/miniatures/800
http://www.ddmdb.com/miniatures/165
http://www.ddmdb.com/miniatures/1219
I couldn't find the flesh golem so I bought the zombie hulk. All are large D&D miniatures (60mm tall) and are perfect for tanks : not too expensive and easy to convert.
I'll post photos as soon as mine is done.

The point of the Frothers sets is that they are the winners/runners up in the various sculpting competitions - the sets are only available for a limited period, because the Sculptors retain the rights to their sculpts. Hasslefree have indeed cast some up previously because Kev White has had competition entries (and winners), and has also bought some of the previously entered sculpts.
As far as I know the two tanks (sculpted by snuurg) will be cast up very shortly, if they haven't already. Your best bet is to either PM geronimo on LAF, or email Fenris Games, as they are likely to be the distributors.
They are lovely sculpts, and ideal as tanks

BTW, the resin base inserts these are on, are also from Fenris Games.
-
Correct on both counts Matt, figures have been cast, (saw em a few weekends ago) and should be in the shop anytime soon.

So Fenris should have them soon ?
BTW they seem a little small. I already have these bases and I assume they are the 30mm bases, aren't they ?
Could you post a photo of the Tanks next to a human (Hasslefree or Copplestone) please ?
-
I have the Frothers ones but also chopped the Heresy Ogre
I cut off the club and swaped the head out for a spare one I had but if I did it again would use a Mantic ghould one

-
I didn't notice a link for it, but the upcoming Reaper miniature is pretty much Ellis -
(http://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/50198_g_1.jpg)
There was also an excellent Rochelle, but that appears to have disappeared off of the preview page.
-
I haven't gotten any of the survivors as of yet. My contracting job decided to take a 3 week break so I'm having to be tight on excess funds right now.
That reaper mini is the one I want for Ellis. I'd have to replace the guitar with a grenade launcher.
I want those Frothers' miniatures so bad I can just about taste it!!!
-
I'd deffinetely not remove that guitar, its there for ellis to play some of his favorite midnight riders songs while hes not tyring to "kill all son of bitches" 8)

It is also an ideal hand weapon :D

Working on the new webstore at the moment, Tanks and other new and old minis will be on there this week. Drop me a PM if you're more desperate :)
Both tanks are approx 32mm to the tops of their heads - they stand, for comparison, a full head taller than Tengu's clown zombies (and are considerably more bulky!)
