Title: inspiration needed (wfb chaos ôld schö0l)
Post by: Dr. The Viking on 21 September 2010, 10:40:28 AM
Yes,

Just like everyone else in the entire Universe I'm quite taken by old school miniatures.

I now want to make a small hamlet for my Chaos Warband... but I'm kind of stuck regarding how they would lodge themselves?

I was thinking thatched roof huts or something similar flimsy... like the old picts or something. But then again the round curves and all aren't really chaotic.

A keep is not really fit for a small warband either.

So who has an idea?

If its a marauder tribe then they might live in yurts.

Else you might consider doing a raided village taken over by the raiders for the night.

How about those cracking Norwegian churches with a few more spikes and a bit more ramshackle

Not the white ones but the old wood ones.

cheers

James

Yeah, I'm thinking Viking-style, for Chaos Marauders. A long hall of the kind beloved of 'The Vikings' and such like.

Warriors of Chaos would be more likely to live in a big temple and never sleep anyway.

I picture tents anchored at eight corners with iron, arrow tipped spears.

Though GW would probably make a skull shaped tent and whack skulls all over it.

Interesting one.

Well, technically, they are norse, just, evil. SO perhaps longhouses and stuff, but evil.

With pits for their hounds, lots of chained up prisoners, spawn and a sacrificial stone surrounded by stones.

Chaos Warriors, yeah, I don't reckon they sleep.

If it's for beastmen, I could imagine them living in caves in a barren hill side, surrounded by hovels, sacrifice altar and so forth.

Cause you know... goats burrow.  ::)

Go all Tim Burton on some fantasy architecture.

Yes, and Monoliths are important! And, as Rob mentioned, an altar!

Are we talking about unaligned / plain vanilla Chaos Marauders?  I like rob_alderman's suggestion of going with a Norse encampment, with an evil twist.  If your warband is dedicated to one of the Chaos gods, I've got a few other suggestions.

Nurgle - A huge decaying chaos beast of some sort. Either a mostly intact one, or just the ribs and a few leftover bits.
Khorn - Smaller version of Castle Greyskull.
Slanesh - Series of tens made from silk and flayed skins.  Arabian Nights meets Ed Gain.
Tzeentch - A tower, or fortress with legs.  Cross between Baba Yaga's hut and a wizard's tower.

I'd go for simply a ruined norsca settlement, but maybe with a monument to the dark gods, or even a portal to allow the non mortal elements of the warband to be summoned.

Bodies impaled on spikes, skullz... more spikez, SKULLZZZZ etc.....

;)

Mongolian Urt or however it is spelled.  Chaos Wastes are North they are the Steppe barbarians at least many of them are...  Isn't Kislev the Slavs or Russians or something.  I know the Imperial is the Germans...

What about a few bones and furs knocked together?

Skullz and flayed skin would set it off nicely too!  :D

I think the Grendel huts would fit in well with a chaos warbands needs.

They have several sets which would work well including a Barbarian Kings Throne.

You know in my humble opinion, the best way for us to help is to see your warband.
This way it will be easier to imagine their place to live.

If it s old school, then it might be more of chaos warriors, beastmen and thugs so I would imagine more of a bones and stones village. Then if it s in the chaos land, you can go crazy, the warlock can summon buildings and such.
