Title: Hungarian Monster Hunters
Post by: jet on September 30, 2010, 04:46:38 PM
Although I've had a barrel of fun playing my werewolves and my vampires, I really had to paint myself a human warband. I give you... the Von Krumm Expedition. All of the photos with backstory are in the usual place: http://geektactica.blogspot.com/2010/09/von-krumm-expedition.html

Thanks gents.

The ruleset we use is Chaos in Carpathia. Very playable and lots of individual abilities to flesh out the different character types.

Very nice work. The nun's proportions look a little off, but the paint job is nice. I just picked up the CiC ruleset and the mods that were posted here. Every so often, I get this urge to start collecting the Gothic Horror stuff (usually right around Halloween) but I usually let it slide by. This year, I think I'll start picking up some models to build some warbands.

The model is actually sold as a statue, but I decided to say, "what the hell," and to paint it up as an actual person.

Hi Jet,

Those are some great paint jobs.

The flames of the torches work really well - could you give us a few pointers on how to achieve the effect, if poss.

I have started painting my humans and hopefully will be having a game around Halloween.

You just start from almost white and then do 'reverse highlights' layer by layer (darker and darker), instead of starting with red and working towards yellow/white.

Another nice crowd, there, jet.... I SO want to get on with painting, and I won't be able to do much the next month, either..  :(

Thanks guys.

RMZ, as Argonor said, the principle is reverse highlighting. That is to say, lightest colour (white) goes in the cracks and the highlighting goes from there to yellow, orange, and red. I try my best to keep the source of the flame (i.e. the hottest part) white. That's why the part at the base is white, and as a general rule, the farther I get from the source, the closer I get to red. So, for these torches, I work my way up the flame from white to red.

I'm pretty sloppy when I paint the colours. I mean, after putting down a couple of even white coats, I add the yellow, orange and red in about two minutes or less - it's not an exact science. When they've dried, I wash the top of the torch with a little black wash to suggest smoking and smoldering. After that's dry, I paint a couple of orange or yellow highlights on to tie it altogether, or to fix it up if I went overboard with one of the colours.

My kids just got a killer rodent each..... well, about a fourthnight ago. Wouldn't let any of those near my minis... on purpose, that is!  lol
