Title: Battlestations!
Post by: MrHarold on 05 October 2010, 11:41:09 PM
Hey All,

Has anyone here played Battlestations! ?  The designer came down to my local game store and ran a game for us (I had picked up the rules the week before).  While marketed as a board game it is a miniatures game as much as anything else.

Anyways, I ended up having a blast (and not getting blown up) and have started a group to play every other week.

I was curious on every one else's opinions on the game.

Thanks!

I've had the pleasure of playing several games over the last few months and recently picked up a copy. I very much like the colourful, space-opera setting filled with alien races & their special characteristics.

The game is well written, with lots of good cross-references throughout that make it easy to find any little detail you need when you need it. The mechanics are very straight forward & they have to be, given the amount of action going on inside and outside your ship.

Play offers a blend of RPG, minis & board-game fun. However It's up to you & your friends how much you want any one aspect to dominate your games. The goal is to cooperate as a crew, flying about space, shooting stuff and performing heroic boarding actions (lots of them!) to complete missions so you can improve your characters & your ship.

How many players does it need?

At least two, I think three would be much more ideal (as you could have one GM and two players) but 4 + the GM seems to be perfect.  My buddy and I play, but it'd be a little better with at least one more...

Three works dandy. GM & two players w/ two characters each. More players is good once folk have an idea of what's going on & what the possibilities are.
