Title: The Continuing Search for the Amulet
Post by: Ramirez Noname on 08 October 2010, 01:40:29 PM
A few photos and a quick report on last night’s “.45Adventure” game. The Somnabulist was playing the Lobster Johnson group and Ade (who is new to the game) played Ludwig and his Cultists. I GM’ed the game.

the game board

The two groups had different objectives leading to the same, final goal; the “night time” rule was also played.

Still searching for the elusive amulet fragments, Lobster Johnson and his intrepid pals found themselves in a rather eerie cemetery in northern Europe. After being chased out of the jungle last time, with nothing to show for their efforts, the group was keen to make their moves. Winning initiative they were soon on to the first encounter chit, which turned out to be an apparition which really made Fritz Faber run. Having regained his courage (passed a GUTS test) he was soon back investigating.

The opening moves

Meanwhile, in another part of the cemetery, Ludwig and his gang of cultist (or should that read “thugs”) were making themselves busy with some other cemetery dwellers. Having disturbed one ghoul, the gang merrily uncovered another encounter to discover another pair of ghouls. Eventually, the ghouls were overcome (with lots of biting and scratching, and even a little help from one of Lobster Johnsons group) and the cultists’ investigations continued.

cemetry dwellers and cultists

The real showdown came in the graveyard, when the cultist took control of the northern part and proceed to prevent Lobster and his men from doing anything. Poor old Jim (Manny) Mandelson (one of Lobster’s men) activated an encounter only to find himself with a pair of zombies to contend with. Ludwig and gang, always willing to help, hosed down the zombies with a tommy gun whilst they were engaged in close combat with Manny. The cultist managing to hit not just the zombies but Manny as well. With Manny in a bad mauled, shot and crawling away Mad Dog the cultist with the tommy gun decided to incapacitate Manny and leave him to the zombies.

blurry end game

In the end, Lobster Johnson and his pals managed to find a Coin of the Nameless One and Ludwig and his cultist succeed in finding another piece of the amulet – only two more pieces to find.

I had really done my homework on this game and prepared some briefing notes for the players about each groups skills and a quick resume of the rules. This helped the game to flow a lot quicker because we were not constantly delving into the rules; I think familiarity with the system is also paying off. A great evening spent gamming.

What a great looking board. I love the color pallette that you chose for it. Feels very Weird tales.

I think your cementery is perfect!

Where are the walls from? Are they scratch built?

I think the cemetary is an old GW scenery piece from maybe 8 years ago.

Thanks guys,

Yeap, it is the old GW cemetry, picked up a year ago at a local table top sale. It was a bit tatty but I soon sorted that out. It is mounted on a large MDF base (about 450 x 300 mm) with some tree stumps and low walls attached as a piece.

We use it quite a bit as it can fit several different game settings and it appears on several different threadds on LAF.

Yup that's a great looking board, the graveyard is excellent... :) Interesting report too, I like the idea of the random encounters that occured around the graveyard.
