Today I posted a review of the Westerners starter set for HellDorado from Cipher Studios...

Enjoy!

I thought Helldorado had folded... ???
-
Cipher picked the line up and are going to do an English rulebook in a few months
Just one point on the review, what size are they? 28mm, 30mm, 32mm, 35mm.... <do we need so many scales?!>
-
I think they are 30mm, looks interesting.
-
I was waiting on the official word for that. I also forgot to put the photos in showing them next to some other models. Those are up now at the end of the article.
The official word I got back from Cipher Studios is that they're 32mm scale, since many measure 32mm to the eye. I was waiting for confirmation, because I wanted to say 30mm, but wanted to be certain.
As my photos reveal tho, they don't look bad at all next to many other 28mm and 30mm scale models that are out there as well.
Well, at least the Westerners models that is. I'm going to begin work on some of the other starter sets later today, so we'll see about the other models.

I'd classify them as 32mm, too. Rather slender sculpts, much like Confrontation, but at least the humans are not too "over the top". I got the two ladies from the Occidentaux box for Gothic Horror gaming. The Gipsy girl is particularly nicely done, great animation and detail.

Their first release was a bit on the flat side though, flat as in the width of the model. It felt a bit like 2D done 3D (or like playing Playstation games) :( I was really turned-off when I finally recieved them and actually just passed them along.

I love that gypsy mini. I admit I got the whole box (from Ebay) for that single mini.

Coincidentally, I did the same thing (although I also wanted the "Big Bertha" fig as well, and don't even THINK of getting all snarky on me on that, old Swede!), but I sold the rest of the box to another player who actually wanted to game Helldorado and wasn't to keen on those gals (I pity the fool...).

My gut tells me Cipher is about to pick up Kraken Editions, too.
-
They're nice looking figures once painted and I wish Cipher well.
I sold my 4 starter boxes last year - lack of time, interest and fellow gamers.

I have to say that although Helldorado Minis are superb sculpts and about 30mm scale, you have to be careful to mix them with other ranges. This is because they are terribly thin. I still don't have a clue how I should pin or build some of models to prohibit parts breaking of. Bending is one of the greatest problems at least of the Immortals Box.
