Well...not strictly true but I thought I'd build me a 'Bug' type army that dwells on a desert planet...a bit like Starship Troopers but using other miniatures. The idea for these turned up as a result of me building my Grymn Tunnel Fighters and needing something that lived in caverns for them to fight.
Tyranids were the obvious choice so I set about putting together a small force of 'nids.
I placed limits on what I could use...the only ranged weapons being bio-plasma and any carapace launched spines...I can use these because we have insects on earth that fire chemicals and launch hairs/needles to defend themselves.
I also didn't want them to be carrying anything (like weapons/rifles...that sort of thing) so they all had to have claws. I didn't want the claws to look too human so I also trimmed off thumbs where I needed to.
Painting was a case of making them blend in with their desert surroundings rather than be painted garishly (like they usually are).
This is what I ended up with:

The Rippers are magnetised so they can be removed as wound markers. The Carnifex is the leader at the moment but will be replaced by a hive-queen when I finish her...egg-sac and all. I have a small amount of Rippers, the hive queen and a bunch of flying gaunts to go but they are just in boxes so they will wait.
Next up...varnishing them and sorting out a carry case for them...

They look very nice and coherent 8)

Very nice. I like the natural colours.

Theres always something very appealing about well painted Nyds. Though I've always wanted to see some painted with iridescent paints abit like some beetles.

Thanks :) .
I put these together to act as a foe for my Grymn Tunnel Fighters and wanted them to look natural rather than bio-engineered...
...and they were really simple to paint...so it was win-win really.
