Hi,
I just thought I'd share some photos of a 15mm modular FIW Fort I've been working on. Unfortunately it's not for me but a friend in the US but I plan on making a more compact version for myself, someday.

It is modular and the bastions are a little different to what I had originally had planned. Overall I'm reasonably pleased with the result but I am really pleased with how the tree wrap worked and I feel an Indian village may be added to my own wish list sooner than I had thought. Should you read this SI, I highly recommend you pick some up for your Indian village ;)
I still need to add some ladders... :lol:
Finally, a reasonably newish terrain piece for my FIW games, though it could naturally be used for other periods and conflicts.

I would have liked to have made the areas of flock under the trees a little darker and to have had it more heavily wooded but I wanted to find a happy medium between looking good and playabilty. Overall I'm happy with the result.

I have saved copies of the fort images as there are a lot of features that I want for my palisade that will protect my interpretation of (a bit of) Albany.
The tree wrap you mention. Is that what was used for the roofing of the buildings? If so, it is very, very effective! 8) But, what is tree wrap? I'm not familiar with the term.
The rocky outcrop is excellent as well.
I really admire that you are doing this in 15mm - you have the scope for 'bigger pieces' but oh so fiddly. :o

Until an article in Wargames Illustrated, I had never heard of the stuff myself and I searched for sometime without luck. Foolishly it never occurred to me to ask some friends in the US about the stuff. As to what it is for, hopefully one of our American friends can help out here, however, I believe it’s wrapped around the trunk of the tree to protect it from severe frost, rodents, etc. There are a couple of variations , one is a fabric, but the other is paper. At first glance it reminds me of very thick crepe paper.
I finally managed to find someone in the US who would send it to Australia and I plan on making myself a village as described in the article this time.

I’ve bought the Sketchbook 56 series by Ted Spring which is also mentioned by Herb Gundt in the article. They are around A4 size and the artwork may not be the finest (in the words of Herb, “amateurish done”), but they are packed full of useful information and are well worth the cost, especially the Indian Allies title. Unfortunately the link provided below shows it as being out of print, but I have seen it listed on a few sites selling these types of books so you may find a copy around the place.

That's wonderful work! I eventually want to do some kind of frontier American fort for my Mountain Men... but that's for next year. Who is your supplier in Australia of the Tree Wrap?

Green Harvest Organics were the stockist. I say were as I've just had a look and I can't find it now. Probaly just had a 'man look', as my wife puts it ;)

FWIW, the eBay seller I bought mine from was great to deal with and was the only seller, both on eBay and traditional retail store I contacted, that offered reasonable postage. All the people I contacted seemed very nice and helpful though :D

I called Green Harvest, they just don't stock it anymore! They've replaced with some plastic tape rubbish.
Apparently it was just getting too expensive for them...

I used pine bark for the cliff face. I have built one or two smaller pieces in the past, but this is the first with any real height. I plan on buildign a couple more as time permits. I did give it several washes of green, rust red and brown, but they don't really show up in the photos and the washes may have been too washed out.
