Title: Far East Pulp games and materials
Post by: The Orientalist on 28 October 2010, 03:34:07 PM
Hi
I'm new to the 21st century Pulp gaming experience. I tripped over this site while researching Shanghai Municipal Police. I was wondering if anyone can advise me on Pulp games/rules/source materials; online Pulp games that can be joined; and general materials/sources on Shanghai in the 1920/1930s.

I guess I'm starting again with gaming. The last time I played RPGs was Warhammer back in the 1990s.

Any suggestions are gratefully received.

Cheers!

I've no useful input to your query, friend, but all the same do send a warm welcome your way. :)

Welcome to the forum!

There are a number of popular rules sets for Pulp-themed gaming, including .45 Adventure, Where Heroes Dare!, Savage Worlds, Astounding Tales, Pulp Alley, G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T., and a host of others. You can probably find reviews of the various systems and battle reports for many of them here on the forum (.45 Adventure has its own sub-forum here).

If your interest is specifically in Far Eastern Pulp-themed gaming, then your opportunities for online gaming or local tabletop gaming may be limited (you may be obliged to host/run games yourself to build up interest in such a specialized topic).

There is a forum for online roleplay gaming here (although I can't speak for the topics/quality of the games you may find):

http://roleplaymarket.com/index.aspx

If you're interested in .45 Adventure, you might want to hold off on purchasing the rules set, as a new edition with substantial revisions is due out in December.

I think that your best bet is to browse the Pulp forum here and ask questions.

Hi

Cant help you with the gaming bit, but I found these two books to be interesting for a bit of SMP lore:

First one is "biography" about a rank&filer named R.M Tinkler:

And the second one is about the MAN himself, W.E.Fairbairn:

Then there is our own dear Doc. Twilight and his Black Army miniatures.

His site is currently being rebuilt but a lot of what he does circles around the International Settlement in Shanghai, ca 1930.

I am still waiting for a reply to an order inquiry I made with Blackarmy Productions almost a week ago :'(
