So I now find myself in possession of 12 Kroot warriors, which I intend to use as Venusian Parrotmen, possibly even without any conversion other than my ubiquitous use of pennies as bases.
I know a lot of you have such Parrotmen armies in your forces, and I was wondering what color schemes you tended to use. Kroot are obviously Kroot, especially if you hang around GW players - they say "Hey, you painted those Kroot funny" instead of "Well obviously you have Venusian Parrotmen".
I'm looking for a color scheme that is a) easy enough that I will have patience to paint up a lot of and b) obviously Venusian Parrotman and not Kroot.
Anyone have pics of what they did?

Here's my Martian Gun crew. Primed white and several coats of GW's green wash for the skin.

To make mine less Kroot I put them in uniform (Perry Plastic riflemen) and painted them orange for the House of Orange.

If you're allying them with a European power you could match suitable colours....

How exactly did you do that?

i quote: can you give us bigger and more zoomed photos? 'cause it looks a brilliant conversion!

I was going to put mine in uniform just like those as well, but I was going to greenstuff the uniform.
Perhaps the best place to start for colours would be real species of Parrot and what will match the colours you are going to use elsewhere.

This thread has a few shots of my Parrotman army:

They are red with green spines/feathers and yellow chests. I think the colour scheme was based on a simplified Makaw colouring.

Here's a shot before washes/highlights are applied.

'nother question for you all.
Where do you find parrotmen on the GW website?
I can never find them.., :-[

I'll try for a better pic later.
The conversions are not that brilliant. I got a load of Perry Rifflemen at a flea market at Fall in last year. I simply cut their boots off and attached Kroot calves and feet. I used Kroot arms, green stuffing them at the wrists to denote sleeves. They look fine on a gaming table, although close up I wince on occasion.

Ah ha... Thanks!

To differentiate my parrotmen from Dewbakuk's green and red chaps, I painted my parrotmen blue. I use these as warriors from an allied clan in the service of the French:

The only conversion I did was to remove the muzzle/blade end of the kroot gun to make them look a bit more like jezails (although I retained the blade on the butt end).
By coincidence, I undercoated a few more today as part of my project to finish my existing French forces for Venus before I get too involved adding more stuff to support them on Mars! Included in this new group is my mounted chief armed with an elephant gun :o (a present from the French)

I did mine in turquoise/bronze.

Must take a picture of my finished force.

Mine are blue with red quills.

You'll have to scroll down to the Necromunda heading. I'm kind of cheating in that I use mine for actual Kroot.

Yes please do.

OK, as requested, some of my Dutch Venusian Parrotmen. A little cringe inducing, especially oversized, but I said that I would post them.... ;) Sorry about the lousy quality of the photos - pictures were taken with and without flash, and without was even worse. And the blue of the pants.... my lord, the pics look nothing like the reality. But oh well, here they are:

Very easy conversions - Perry Napoleonic British Riffleman bodies but off at the boot. Kroot head and feet added. You can angle your but on the boot and calf to make some interesting poses, from standing straight up, to leaning forward in a predatory manner. The arms are straight Kroot arms, with green stuff sleeves (poorly sculpted) and the muscles on the arms obscured with plastic cement. I elected to keep the Kroot weapons as is - I was encouraged to get rid of the blades, but I just love the look of them so much. There are veritably dozens of possible poses. A very fun conversion, and a unit of them moving across the table is enough to turn the enemies stomach's turning.
Next up: Parrotmen cavalry. :D

Very nice Harrison Tichner conversion, by the way!

I noticed that too. Great conversion, and I really love the base model. I just converted one for my Dutch.

I painted my parakeetmen ;D in a turquoise blue with yellowish beige details, both in 40k as in Epic scale (for FWC), mainly because that contrasted with the light grey / blueish grey colourscheme of the regular `Cybernetic Species X31`

Cheers. The original is a great figure. The conversion was just a simple head-swap. I wanted a 'bad-ass' looking VSF leader dude, and they seem pretty hard to find :)

Chairface, I love your conversions.
I'd really like to do something similar...
