Title: Chaos on the Kyll River
Post by: Mo on 18 August 2006, 06:24:22 PM
It's late 1944 and the Allies are making their push towards the Rhine. Desperate to stop them, the German's call upon Tobias Kroon and his zombies to do the impossible. Take down a heavily guarded bridge of the Kyll River to slow the allies march.
Strapping explosives to the zombies backs, the germans send the near unstoppable creatures through the hail of gunfire...

Ever since Rich released Amazing War Stories I've wanted to do something with Zombie Bombs. I've designed this scenario around it and have run it twice now. It is a great deal of fun and very balanced. Besides the zombies it features U.S. rockettroopers, an American and German supersoldier, and a crazed Russian construct who doesn't know who's side he's on!

I'm going to be running the game at Southern Front in Raleigh and again next year at Cold Wars. I have also been offered  the opportunity to write up a battle report for Fictional Reality that will appear in the December issue.

Until then here are some scenes from last nights game...

Hi Guys,

I'm not sure what's going on. Rich posted these for me on his website and I can see the thumbnails just fine.

Unfortunately Rich was busy grabbing his flip flops and Doc Savage beach towel on his way to vacation, so it might be a few days before it is fixed.

I'll see what I can put together.

I'll try and fix images tonight. I had to try and do the pictures through Word (since I don't have any web software at the moment).

Here are the individual images:

The usual rogues gallery in Charlotte have been involved. Either in the first game or second I had  Jerry Frazee (Nazrat), Kim Allman (Whitemanticore), Bob Bemis (RoBemis), Audrey Ewing and John (the John Cone Rule) Cone.

John loves .45A because his character always survives the game. Something he is not famous for in his other wargame endeavors.

I haven't had the heart to tell him heroes never die in .45A

I think I've met everyone except Audrey Ewing and John Cone. What's the John Cone Rule?

We tentatively named a Gloire rule after somebody in the NJ Wargamers' club: Jeffing. I can't remember Jeff's last name, but I know we named Jeffing after him. Jeffing is now specifically disallowed.

And where'd you get that nifty bridge? It's nifty!

John Cone's hero never dies. Like Marc said, he has not had the hear to tell John that Heroes don't die.

John Cone Rule... John Cone's character can never be killed.

Plain and simple. Didn't realize characters don't die and was thrilled when Rich agreed to put it in the book!

Very cool scenario! Zombie bombs looks like tons of fun! What models did you use for the germans? They are good sculpted and nicely painted minis.

I can see why they are famous. They performed admirably both times I've run the game!

I used encounter cards rather than encounter markers. One was revealed at the beginning of each turn.

Mad Boris was one. The Russian Flesh construct is a split personality. When he is Boris he fights with the allies. If he's injured he has the chance of becoming Zarkov and will attack anyone.

I had cards represinting 'Nightfall', 'Strafing Run', and 'Glitch'. Whoever draws the glitch could play it on a piece of equipment on the opposing side and it would not work for a turn. First game it was used most effectively on the Zombie control box!

There was also a German supersoldier in the cards, but he didn't show up this game. Here is a picture from the previous game of him...

The Germans were mine, and are made by Black Tree Design.  I have several hundred of their models, and they are very characterful and perfect for Pulp.  They all have been painted with Armory's now defunct Feldgrau hue, then washed with watered down black ink, then highlighted first with the original color and then with that color with a bit of white in it.

Marc did a great job writing this scenario.  It's been really fun both times we have played it, but I REALLY want to see the US stop those blasted zombies!

If Marc complains, I'll be sure to "send someone around" to make sure he knows what he's supposed to think.

Mo, the scenario is translated... I suppose you don't mind if I also translate the battle report. I think it will caught the attention of all those poor "I like pulp but I still don't know" guys over there...

I'll send you a copy as soon as I finish it.

Thanks!  I'm not sure what I'll do with a Spanish copy, being an American and refusing to learn any other language, but I'd love to have it!
