I am looking for photos of British at Archangelsk but stumbled on these instead. I thought they might interest someone. Should anyone have British photographs, do post them here. I will edit the title accordingly.

I also found some pictures of English and Allied troops marching at Archangelsk.

In the second picture, in the lower bit of the picture... Are these Americans or British troops? They are wearing Brodies from what I can see.
-
If you mean the one with everyone parading, I suspect they are British troops judging by the Sgts stripes and that they appear to be carring SMLEs. IIRc the US forces were equipped with US made Moisin Nagants, prior to deploying to Archangel.
The first set you posted shows Australians serving as volunteers with the Royal Fusiliers as part of Syren Force, the 1919 relief expedition.
-
Wow, you can tell that these are SMLEs from that "distance"? Nice one. And I also hadn't spotted the stripes at all. :) Good catch there as well.
One reason why I thought these can't be American was because they are not wearing campaign hats. Most photos depict them wearing these.

Foresight guard, dead giveaway.

Lovely pics chaps :) Fascinating.
-
Interesting! Not a single Brodie on these photos. It's caps all the way. It seems both are a possibility.
Thank you very much cuprum. Those are great!!
-
Naturally enough, tin hats tend not to be worn when out of the line, except for parades and all the photos posted by cuprum are in rear areas.
-
There seem to be no photos of the front areas it seems. The parading one is the only photo I've seen till now with Brodies.

Americans are necessary? Serbs? Italians?
-
Oh, I am personally only looking for British, but we could make this into a general allied thread for people looking for information on that theatre. So, feel free to post more pictures of any allied intervention force. :)

Great photos! Thanks!

Something I've personally been considering as a project, but just haven't had time.

Thanks again. The first one is quite well known but I have'nt seen the others before. The one of the Italians is very interesting, looks like a mix of Bersaglieri and Alpini. Hopefully you'll have a photo showing the Polish contingent.

These photos of Poles in Russian North to me were sent by my friend and asked to place them here.

Wow! many thanks cuprum. greatly appreciated.

Indeed! I am glad there as so many interesting pictures. Hopefully this will become a good inspiration thread for anyone interested to create an interventionist army.
