I was recently watching episodes 4 and 5 of Spartacus Blood and Sex er Sand and was interested to know the progress of Season 2. Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) was struck down with cancer, non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, in March this year and this delayed the production of Season 2. As of May 2010 he had gone into complete remission from the cancer but unfortunately in September the cancer returned and he decided not to return for Season 2. An alternative actor to play Whitfield's role will be sought. To cover this a 6 episode prequel, Spartacus:Gods of the Arena, will premiere January 2011. This will document the rise of the House of Batiatus as it seeks to earn respect and get it's gladiators championship bouts. I imagine that this this will have a similar level of flesh both being carved up in the arena as well as being exposed in the bedroom.

I was actually quite enjoying this bit of fantasy. It is very sad that Andy Whitfield has cancel, he wasn't bad at all.

Cheers for the heads up, fsultana. I'd heard about Andy Whitfield leaving, it's a real shame but his health has to come first.
I'm glad we've got more of John Hannah as Batiatus in Jan, though.
