Hi all,
I have been wanting to do this for a while now and after seeing all the great zombie threads on here I decided to actually do it, I will be posting my progress on this thread as i go.
Please excuse my amateurish painting as this will be my first time doing 25/28mm characters since I was 14 (nearly a 30 year gap);D
I have started with some vehicles, I wanted to get a police van/car and an amublance of some sort bt I couldnt find anything suitable at a price I wanted to pay so after hunting around I found a few vehicles of the approximate scale in the pound shop of all places. Each vehicle was either 50p or £1 and are quite nice for the price although they require some modding to become what I wanted. Here are the first two being prepped for spraying.

Here they are again after spraying, the police van also has some markings now, which came out not entirely as good as I wanted but they are serviceable for tabletop gaming purposes I think. Neither are finished yet as i need to add wear and tear and some blood splatters. If anyone has any ideas on how to source some lights for the vehicles I would be grateful as i have not been able to find anything suitable for this purpose as yet.

One of the reasons I started this project was my friend wanted to play a zombie tabletop game using marines/soldiers etc, so I tried to turn two of the cheap cars into military / para military vehicles. I have tried to give them an urban camo paint job (a bit naff I know). The mounted gun on the roof I made from scratch from bits of junk I had lying around, same with the window screens.

and finally for the moment anyway here are my first zombie and survivor. I bought the entire set of studio zombies bar the children and xmas group so lots of painting ahead. Here we have the punisher blowing the head off a female zombie. Punisher came out not too bad but i think I was too subtle on the highlights hence he looks all black in the photo, I used a medium/heavy white drybrush then washed with dark blue ink, it ok close up but not at a distance, still I will know better next time.

and here she is alone.
I will be using a mixture of paper/card buildings for terrain, initially I was going to build solid structures from scratch but was put off by time constraints and costs involved. I have seen worldworks stuff before but never actually in situ and after seeing it put to good use by Commander Viper I thought they would be ok, so I have gone mostly for them with a few built from scratch.
Hopefully I can post some more soon as I construct the town and it's inhabitants, the town should be 6 x 10 tiles (tiles are 7x7 inches) when it's finished.

Good luck with the new project - remember zombies are for unlife, not just for Xmas....

Yes I like it too. I use wonder works buildings and I think you'll be happy with them.

Thanks for the comments, here are some more zombies I finished this week, I did a fair number after seeing the lasted excellent episode of Walking Dead, which is a great encouragement.

Not a fan of the basing style you use, (I'm kinda hooked on resin ones now), the zeds could do with a little delvan wash just to bring some more depth into the mix.
Any plans for gaming?
Edit:Lights for those vechiles, I have a link to a US company that does emergency lights for 1/50 1/43 vehicles, I'll try to dig it out.
Oh and if you're going to repaint entire vehicles I suggest you unscrew/drill out the rivets and trip em down to the bare shell as masking never gives a good finish unless you spend good time on it.
Good luck

Personal taste I know, TBH I am experimenting at the moment for bases, just using filler and carving a little detail in. I may move to pre-done resin bases later on. Devlan wash? Is that like peat brown ink wash? I have been experimenting with peat brown ink wash on some of the figs or parts of them. Sometimes it looks good, other times not; I am not fond of the gloss finish, possibly that will come out less with a matt varnish but i don't know as I havent varnished them yet.

Oh Yes definately, that was the primary reason for this project I have never collected models purely for collection sake, i always use them. I am designing a set of rules at the moment, although I will probably steal the turn system from ARSE (with a little modification) as i like the slight random factor in who is going next as it makes planning your next move not so predictable.

Yes you can tell this is the first time I have done any of this can't you ;)
Good luck
Thanks, I shall probably make few more cock-ups on the way but it's all a learning process. I have been making buildings and streets in between painting, I will have enough for some pics by Friday so I will post them on the weekend as we are planning to have a quick test of the rules to see if any problems turn up.

Good man, I'm not far from you so might get to see/play at some stage?

Devlan wash is an ink/wash made by games workshop. It does well for skin, as does their sepia tone.
I like what you've done, I look forward to seeing some games with this.

Ok it was below zero outside yesterday so I took the day off and did some more painting, finished off the hospital themed group from studio miniatures and built the frontage to my hospital (and found that the mounting board warped more than I expected).

Real shame about those 'scrubs' zombies, the sculptor went all bubble head with them, the only Studio miniature zombie pack I don't have actually. ;) You've still got the body bags to do from the other medical themed pack, they could out very nicely when done.
Out of interest, where's the hospital from?

I spent ages trawling the net for free or cheap paper building downloads, this site has a few but they are very nice considering they are free. It's an asylum but it's acceptable as an old gothic type hospital.

--- Oh-oh!! More scenic fodder for the town?
Excellent link! Downloaded and saved them all!!!
Anyway we can get a peek at your rules when you're finished with them?

We played a quick test session to see if the combat rules needed tweaking, I had finished 70% of the board and enough half finished vehicles for test purposes. I didn't bother with a full battle report since it was a test but her are a few pics.
My buddy was playing a squad of 6 marines (and he forgot to bring his marine figs so I had to substitute random heroes) armed with assault rifles, pistols, 1 sniper rifle and a SAW.

The board set-up.
Our heroes make their way to the objective, which was the hospital to rescue the scientist there.
By this point in the game the sniper had gotten cornered in a house by himself and was surrounded but handily had drawn the main zombie pack away from the rescue portion of the team who had made it to the hospital. The SAW guy (pictured above) had lost a fear check and forced a tactical withdraw away from any zombies which left him cut off in the petrol station by the time he had recovered.
However his luck held and despite numerous rolls for ammo checks he kept up an astounding rate of fire and kill rate before finally getting overwhelmed on top of a crashed truck when his luckand ammo finally ran out.
The sniper was eaten in the house and one other squaddie fell to a couple of ambush crawlers when he misjudged distance to the final building. The others as you can see made it to the rescue helicopter with the scientist intact.
Outcome: I think the rules worked reasonably well, the game took 2.5 hours to run and I need to tweak a few rules for expediency purposes, I may also alter the running out of ammo checks on heavier weapons as the SAW was overly effective. I hadnt finished any of my equipment find cards either so that can wait until next time.

I recognised those buildings! :D Nicely done, will go back and read the game report properly later.
Nice scenery, especially the gothic apartment. ;)
