Title: 28mm Blackfoot Indians - where to buy?
Post by: Christian on 01 December 2010, 11:03:02 AM
Hi everyone,

I have a pack of Balckfoot indians from the Foundry Mountain Men set (although they didn't come with spears, grr) and I was wondering where I could find some more like them?

Or, are there any miniatures worth converting? Any other generic Indians (terribly insensitive, I know!) I could slip in?

Thanks!

That was the perfect link as other companies like Perry,Conquest and Redoubt mainly deal with the AWI,French Indian War and Plains Indians so have no NW USA/Canadian border types...go with Foundry I reckon...thay look marvellous with all the skins and furs...excellent range of figs

I'm not aware of any other figures which have the same 'wrapped up' feel as the Foundry Blackfoot figures. A couple of the figures in the mountain men range have amerindian features, so you could possibly add some of them into the mix if you wanted a couple more figures with muskets

You're pretty much stuck with Foundry, not that that is bad. Many of the plains tribal figures can be mixed in as well - we use the nearly naked ones for the younger braves.

I have think the same... the foundry blackfoots are great minis, but I can't find more or this... it's a pity that there is not a whole range of this indian...  :-[

Yeah as said above check out some of the Mountain men some of them do look a little"Indian"
Also Conquest has a new pack of "woodland Indians in winter gear" no pics but I have most of the range and they are really nice figures. The drawback, besides lack of pics, is they may be a little small compared to those Blackfoot of Foundry's.

Depending on the period one is aiming for a woodland indian or two, especially Iroquois, are not out of place in the northern plains or Rockies. Several came west to act as middle men or trappers in their own right, and their decendants are sometimes still noted as such even when enrolled with western tribes.

the picture is not at the best for the figurines.

I have some Bearsden Figures, subcontinnent Indians and Turks.
On TMP there is a "worse miniatures you have ever seen" thread.
I thought of nominating them.

not agree on the eskimo. You must imagine them painted.

Some of my painted Inuit/Eskimos from Bear's Den are here:

They're OK - certainly not as bad as some people would have you believe, but not brilliant sculpts by any means. I think it helps that they don't have much detail on them: lots of thick skins an not much else. The faces certainly aren't up to much, but with a slap of paint you can easily make them pass muster.

The clothing is off but could be fudged if the hair was greenstuffed.
