Title: Aliens ; Colonial Marines question
Post by: dexter on 01 December 2010, 05:23:16 PM
hi
i've seen a copy of Aliens;Colonial Marines Technical Manual on ebay.
i'm tempted to bid on it as it's cheap but i've never seen the book.
My question is , what's in it and is it of any real  use to gamers ?
thanks
Dex

I don't own it, but I have heard that the manual is well worth the buy. In-depth descriptions and illustrations on all equipment known to the USCMC and plenty of other gear not seen in the movie including MBTs and other land vehicles. I want one, myself.

I've got one - lots of pretty pictures, and a bit of fluff - nothing really of any use that you can't get from other sources, except a few mentions of other marine sweapons, such as tanks - its a nice to have, but I wouldn't lose any sleep about not having it.

I have a copy - it's a nice to have, especially when you see other copies going for silly money on Evil Bay!

I have it, it's bloody great and if your going expanded universe for your gaming it's a must.

I've never seen in go cheap in the last 5 or so years so prepare for a high bidding war.

yup, its useful for that, but tbh, the graphic novels have the same info (plus more interesting ideas on other variants of Xeno's), and are a damn sight more readable...

Granted, as does the original Aliens script on the laserdisc/quadriliogy set, but I likes the preety pictures!!!

I find it's a great book to look through when you want to get in that 'Aliens' mood. As Commander says, lots of pretty pictures. It was worth it to me just for the photo references of the uniforms and armor. Some of the in-universe quotes crack me up as well.

I've got one, but I've also got a rather rare (out here) Japanese copy of a similar thing.

Lots of detailed close-up pictures of the costumes, weapons and gear.

I want a fox-tug for my next car.  Twin turbocharged V-12 diesels and 3t bodyweight (once all the ballast is removed - those things can move).

I used to own a copy and I have to say that if it's 'your thing', it's well worth getting. You could happily game without it and there isn't anything in there you couldn't find elsewhere, but it's a nice thing to own in itself. Great photos and fluff etc. I regret getting rid of mine. Obviously the question is, is it worth paying a small fortune for?  :?
