Title: Making Broken Glass?
Post by: Deathwing on 08 December 2010, 07:49:11 PM
So I'm working on some Fallout Vegas terrain and I would like to do some shattered store front windows.  Hopefully with some jagged pieces with cracks still in the frame.  Anyone have any ideas on the best way to proceed.  I have seen people use plastic from blister packs, which looks okay, but I'm afraid the detail will get lost in the overall model.  Thoughts to combat this include maybe a black line around the edges.  I would appreciate any thoughts or comments.  Thanks.

Blister packs sound fine to me but don't use a black pen, get a green marker pen (one used for OHP's or white boards) and run it round the edges. It will give the glass a slightly more realistic look.

cheers

As Jimbibbly said. Plus make sure the glass is dirty, caked with grit and stained so that the shards detail is not lost. Unless a rogue window cleaning bot is central to your games that is :D.  I've done the same with bloody broken glass doors to good effect.

Cheers

As above use a green or blue high lighter for the edges, then splatter with a thinned out mud color water based paint. If you want them bloody run a brush with dark red paint along some of the broken edges. Or splatter with the red paint.
