Title: My Chaos Dwarf Adventure Updated ***July 11-11***
Post by: Blue in vt on 08 December 2010, 08:05:40 PM
Hello all!

I'm a new face around here and thought that I would break the ice by sharing some work I'm doing on some of the classic Chaos Dwarfs...namely the MM90 range from Marauder Miniatures that was produced in the Late 80s.  IMO these are the best Chaos Dwarf sculpts out there...and indeed some of my favorite WFB figures of all time.  Here is the original catalog picture of the whole batch:

I'm currently still attempting to finish assembling copies of all 24...only 3 left to go!  But I haven't let that stop me from starting to paint the ones I have.  So...without further ado...here are the first 7 in order of painting:

And here is a group picture of them after I completed their bases:

Now I just have to get their shields done!

Cheers!

Ooh yes, fantastic. Definately the best complete range of chaos stunties (although I do have a love of some of the early Perry ones too) but I am also a little biased. Perhaps some modern companies should take note?

If you are short of a couple of original shields try chatting to White Knight, he may be able to assist.

Which three are you missing?

I must have acquired a blister of these back in the day somehow - a few familiar faces like the hairy chap and the Turkish looking fellow near the top.  :)

Sadly they are now lost in the mists of time apart from the crossbow armed one which I got somewhere around £15 for on ebay - minus his crossbow and sporting a very shoddy paint job!   :D

A great range and lovely paint jobs too - just looking forward to painting up the Bederken Dwergs from Dave King's new line myself - a rather nice birthday pressie I got recently - very 80s (in a good way) in style too although a bit more gribbly!

If anyone does have number 3 (the pointy hat guy) in a double and would like to trade I'd love to get hold of it!

Very nice by the way.

@ Svenn thanks man...they are a ton of fun to paint.  Here are pics of the last three that I NEED:

If anyone has one...or more...of these they are willing to part with PLEASE let me know... ;)

@Thantsants....cool those Bederken dwarfs are really sweet...certainly have that old school feel to them...please post pics as you work on them.

@thebinmann...I may have another copy of that one...let me look at home...he is one of my favs.

@all....thanks for the kind words...more to come...hopefully soon!

:-* :-* :-* - Really love these guys, really, really love them. I love the look of the Old School Miniatures, there so comic in a way, but brilliant at the same time, if that makes sense? The first one has to be my favourite, the paint job is superb, these miniatures really blew me away, superb stuff!

Hey there Blue, fancy seeing you here... lol (Blind Berzerker here btw...)

Great work on your MM90's; they're great! Hopefully you'll be able to finish the entire range. You actually make me want to get them as well, on top of my Big Hats.

Oh the 'Wants' lists only get longer and longer.. ::)

Very nice and very servicable PJ's I'd just suggest a little wash and highlight here and there, take a bit of the flatness away.

I too have a soft spot for the little chaos stunty buggers meself, around 35 Citadel and Marauder chaos dwarfs.

Nice

Very nice!

Like many other folk, I think the Marauder Chaos Dwarves are an excellent line to collect (although I also like the original Perry Bros. line of pre-Big Hat Citadel Chaos Dwarves as well). I also agree that the recent Bederken Dwergs are worthy successors.

Very nice paintjob on them, can't wait to see your line completed!

Now those are proper Chaos stunties. I've been looking for them for ages around here, no luck. Good on you for finding them, and doing such great paintjobs!

If I ever get to do a Fantasy range, there are going to -have- to be Chaos stunties of some sort.

Thanks all... ;)

And I should say that I fully agree that some of the Perry bros Citadel sculpts rank right up there with the Marauder in character... in fact to field these as a unit I will incorporate several of the ones that fit stylistically.

Here is a picture of the "unit" with a citadel xbow converted to a drummer, and Ori Pointed Beard (in Red) who fits quite well with the MM90s

Cracking stuff Blue, really nice paint jobs! Vibrant, colourful and very old school!

Hope to see more soon. Post more pics of your minis too, I assume these aren't your first paintjobs. =)

I like your paint jobs. reminiscent of the painting style of the time these little guys came out.

I am more of a "big hat" fan, though. But I still like your work :)

King Dave has a thread here and on Frothers.

If you want other Chaos Dwarf old skool types, then Twilight games sold through Hasslefree now has a nice range of plate mailed stunties, I converted and painted a few up, (only issue was the original weapon sculpts so used chaos warrior GW plastic weapons, also added horns to the mage:

Also the command figure had a total re-work as I disliked the weapon and the helmet and the dwarf head underfoot so full face plate, spartanesque crest and demon weapon from Wyrd miniatures set him off a treat.

Enjoy

I too hate painting yellow, but that is very nicely done. It's almost as if most yellow paints are too thin or are gritty.

Well I seem to be on a 1 month schedule with these guys... :o....at this rate I'm going to be 50 by the time I'm done... o_o

Oh well...here is #9...I got a new Triad of greens from Reaper the other day and had to give them a try.

Oooh, those are nice :)
Got 20 of these guys standing in line as well. Gues I was lucky enough that I did buy the marauder chaos army del back in the days, since there guys almost never show up anywhere. It's still a shame that GW doesn't have an archive service (anymore). Would not mind to pay a bit more for some of the classic models.

Sorry, don't have any double. still missing four of these buggers myself.

What I really like is that these guys are a bit cartoonesque counterparts of the chaos warriors that citadel released earlier.

Thanks guys...I'm almost done with number 10...and he may be my favorite so far... :o  I'm finishing him up for the casual painting contest over at Chaos Dwarfs Online...but I will be sure to post pictures here as well.

@Braxandur...well thanks for looking for dupes...I actually just purchased the last three that I need from ebay...I paid way too much for two of them... o_o... and they haven't arrived yet but I think I might have actually completed they set!!!  I do have some dupes so let me know which ones you are missing...I might be able to help.

Cheers,

I wonder me why GW has removed these guys from production. :(

aah, I just went through the box again and noticed I actually do have one double that you were looking for:

So I'm now actually hunting for 5 of them buggers and not 4. Anhyhow, to make matters worse I have about 17 of the old  citadel models and am looking also to form a nicely sized unit of those. yeah yeah...  addiction ;)

anyhow, these guys are still missing, so if anyone by accident see them ;)

:hat off

Howdy all!  I've finally had the chance to get decent pictures of my latest MM90...mister skull face himself. I'm Really excited about how this one came out...it is such a sweet figure that I was worried I wouldn't come up with a paint scheme that did it justice but...for once...and after much thinking I had a clear mental image of what I wanted it to look like and it wall worked out!  I love it when a plan comes together.

Here are the good pics:

I think this guy may become my unit leader!

Very nice - him and skullface!

I remember seeing a conversion in an old white dwarf with the hammer guy - his top half was married with the old Chimaera body to create a rather spiffy Chaos centaur - there was another with an orc torso with orange skin if I remember correctly...  :D

pose, its very dynamic; all twisted around. His heel is up, his toes are up his hammer is twisted around his body.

Very nice

Miniatures and miniature paintings really do get better than this, do it? So what even bother buying more new lead?

Fantastic looking unit, but don't you think they miss a standard bearer  ;)

Looking forward seeing all 24 finished and painted. So how about five more for round 9?

Sorry to have put off offering a compliment on your SPLENDID pieces; quite literally I was left speechless...a most unusual state for moi. It occurred to me that if only those GREAT old minis had received the WONDERFUL attention you lavished on them at the time of their release, they might still be available...or not. VERY, VERY WELL DONE!
