Title: Blasphemous Question about Germans
Post by: Centaur_Seducer on 10 December 2010, 07:48:05 AM
Before I ask the question, I just wish to clarify that its not for me but for a "friend" ;)

How much will it differ if one take plastic Germans from Warlord Games and just put some puttees on them and then call them Late WW1-Germans?
Or do I need to add a gasmask canister as well?
And how much does the uniform differ?

/S

You will need to cut off the top pockets from the jacket & as you say add a WW1 style gas mask canister & i think that you should be ok, you could even leave the jack boots.

Thanks, Keith! :)

How about the Helmets? Or are they unchanged until after the second war?
My mate has turned "lead hell no", so I need to pump him some options!

M16 and M17 (WW1) German helmets are significantly bigger than the later M35,40,43 types and have prominent bolts rather than air-vents etc.
Depends how much you care about these things, but the look is very different.

I had a waddle through loads of helmets. As the WG is a mix, I reckon it should do with a small adjustmen down the neck to make it look bigger. And two small dots of bolts on the forehead :)

I agree, but my mate loves to build stuff. You get more options with plastic basically :)
This his current project for example:

You get the picture ;)

Moustaches.

Won't find them much in World War Two. Common in the Great War. Should be at least one outrageous/comical one in the unit, preferably two. Need a chap with a droopy Sherlock Holmes pipe, too.

Fortunately the inscription on the belt buckle remains the same, Gott mit uns, so there's a weeks work saved. :D
