Title: The Royal Canadian Mech Police
Post by: Super_Gibbon on 01 January 2011, 08:06:21 PM
I posted this guy on my blog (http://steelcitysupers.blogspot.com) with a write up and all that but its been ages since I posted on LAF so here we go. Its the Superfig Patriot with a Canadian twist. My neighbors up north need a super shout out now and again!

That is awesome...the only problem I have is that our RCMP officers were charged with negligence for tasering an aggitated tourist a year ago. I can only imagine what the media would do if they released this guy on an unsuspecting population!! lol

Great job. Thanks for sharing.

Good play :D. I thought they'd have a mechanized force with some vehicles instead. lol

First of all, did you see the footage of that? He wasn't just agitated, he was mental. But that aside, it is a beautiful mini. Well executed!

Tasers mean the police don't have to resort to guns.

Sorry, forgot to add that the paintjob on that figure is nice and clean.  The freehand rank insignia is also well done.

Oh, I'm on your side on that one. Just reread my comment, and I can see how it would be construed as an anti taser statement. Not intended that way.

Tasers mean the police don't have to resort to guns.

Tasers, in the case of that Polish guy in Vancouver airport, meant the Mounties didn't have to resort to thought, either. Just arrive, tase, leave... (it was about 8 seconds or so after they arrived on-scene that they tased the dude. Total attempts at actual communication: zero.)

But politics and police stupidity aside, nicely done model; I especially like the freehand rank insignia! I'd have thought either scarlet-and-white or blue-and-white for an RCMP powersuit, though. (or, if you're a sucker for freehand stripes, copy the multi-coloured stripe scheme the Mounties are using on their current vehicles!)

Oh geez, don't get me started :) I'm from the great white north, and I find that your statement makes it seem like the only choices are guns or tasers. I agree with Wirelizard, Thought means that police don't have to resort to tasers!

That aside, I totally like the nod to the RCMP :) Good stuff there!

I didn't mean to start a wind-up here, but if someone decides to "not think" then isn't it better for them to have an option between lethal and non-lethal action?  If someone is prone to underthink, in spite of training, I would prefer for them to have options.  In addition, since I have relatives in law-enforcement I'm always uncomfortable second-guessing actions after the facts.  Armchair policing is seldom fully-informed, and the media isn't always as objective as they style themselves.   I respect all the opinions here and see where folks are coming from though.

Getting back on topic, this new figure could be a useful addition to the RCMP:

Hi Super_Gibbon, very smooth painting, really like to mini but if its to represent the RCMP properly it has to have a little red on the uniform  :)

Sheerluck Holmes your right about that mini, Antenociti's stuff is gorgeous.

Very cool idea and execution. Now it makes me want to try a version in the Captain Canuck/Guardian scheme. And a unit in red would be outstanding.

I know the Mounties like red, but this guy is Mech police, a new thing. I imagined a whole new force. Also I hate painting red! Thanks for the pic Wirelizard, pretty neat. And thanks for all the positive feedback everyone!

And in regards to the unintended controversy, maybe when I stat him up in Superfigs I should give him a Damaging Aura to represent the taser!

Champions Online (a superhero MMO - but I also think the following stands true for the tabletop RPG version) actually has a special power-armored unit of the RCMP, although their armor is just dull grey for the most part of it. This one looks far more aesthetically pleasing.  :D

Needs a cloak though.  ;)

Cloaks are bad ideas, they can get snagged on things and get in sucked into engines, haven't you seen the "Incredibles"??

Of course I've seen Incredibles. But the point is, in the superhero business you're very likely to get killed.
But when you have a cloak, you die with style.  ;D

And we now will rekindle the age old debate, style verses functionality  :D

Functionality can fail any time, style will last till you die.  ;)

Really now, if you've been seeing tough women who only wear heels, you should keep such things to yourself and not tell it in public.  ;D

Apparently the post-apocalyptic Vegas has a more strict dress-code for such ladies then.
Fallout: New Vegas, I'm looking at you.  :D
