Title: Post-apocalyptic skirmish rules for LAF figs?
Post by: axabrax on January 06, 2011, 02:55:14 PM
The figs get better and better, and I get more and more tempted. I don't really have any experience wuith gaming this genre other than the Gamma World RPG back in the day. Anyone have any recommendations for a good skirmish set that fits the character of the figs? I was thinking you might be able to do something with Necromunda--which I have tucked away somewhere...

I am planning on using the Foundry Streetfight rules available for free download from http://www.thewarstore.com/product6048.html, these are the same basic system as "The Rules With No Name", and work really well, in a campaign mode and are good for multiplayer games, I have already designed many additions to tie in with the LAM figures/STALKER setting (Shotgun rules, Event cards, Mutants etc.).
Once I have finished painting my first batch of figures I will post up a battle report, hopefully by end of this month.

My favorite rules are here...
http://www.skankgame.com/Downloads.html (http://www.skankgame.com/Downloads.html)

I find the entire site very inspirational. Explore it and you'll see what I mean.

I have used them for Post-apocalyptic, Pulp, Cthulhu, Zombies, Dinosaur hunts, capturing King Kong, Gangsters, and sci-fi games.

I second the vote for Skank. I also like the Nuclear Renaissance 2 rules by Ramshackle for this kind of gaming.

I used a complete revision of the Necromunda rules, but I am actually more impressed with a set of Fallout specific rules based on the 'Weird Krieg' system that someone sent me some time back. It has a better Fallout feel to me, and the 'Munda system breaks down after a few rounds in a campaign.

Given that you have the Necromunda rules, and the other sets mentioned are available free iirc, you can try them all till you find what you like best.

Cheers man! Coincidence too, as I've worked some more on the rules today...it's getting closer and closer to a finished version. Campaign system is almost done (important part to complete though: the cost of everything) and then it's time for the different force lists.

I'll second the Wastelands 3 Meltdown rules. The newest version has been
released. The PDF file is free. Campaign system, scenarios and all. I really like
it and can't say enough about them! Check it out!

Is there any way to download Meltdown without signing up for file dropper?

Me and Torben (Phoenikuz) played Wasteland Meltdown yesterday and felt it was missing something after the first game and was a little predictable and boring. So second game we added in the activation system from SoBH and a new stat - Quality and it seemed to work much better. Though the bike rules also need amendment as Torben's bike almost singlehandedly drove down my forces.

Salvage Crew seems interesting to me.  It's the re-release of Star Mogul and will be free from MegaMinis.

Mutants and Ray Guns from Ganesha, Combat Zone or any 2 hour Wargames.....lots of zombie games would work well too

I've received my copyright for my man to man skirmish game Strike Force Commander.  It should be available for purchase around September - October.

It is perfect for these minis.

You have forgotten to give us more information about your system. And, by the way, the name is not a good name for a skirmish, sounds like a 6mm scifi mass-combat-game.

As promoted earlier, Nuclear Renaissance! Its a gang based game with very integrated vehicle rules. The strongest point though is that it works really well as a multi player game.

The basic game is a free download on my web site.
http://www.ramshacklegames.co.uk/nuclear/downloads.html

I am at the moment still working on the update, which is an extension of the main game. Its a massive list of extra options and skills, plus a campaign system.

If anyone were interested in reading (or even better playtesting!) and sending me some comments it would be most appreciated.

I really enjoy it. Its got a great blend of simple and complex. The complex bit is buying your gangs. With the update, there are literally hundreds of skills to choose. However, its all written down on your character sheet, and in game its really a simple mechanic. Its a great game for multiplayer as I said. We often play 5 or 6 player games. While this can take a while with so many players, the game engine handles it really well.

Curtis, are you talking about the download on the web page, or do we need to PM you about the new update? I always found your system very interesting but my gaming group was a bit put of by the lack of options, so this might fix that, also campaign systems are somewhat of a particular interest of mine, I am always looking for new ones.

No, that would be Future War Commander.   My title has existed since 2006, long before I even heard of Future War Commander.  So, thanks for the feedback, but the name isn't changing.

And I wasn't using this thread to plug my game mechanics, just let the group know something appropriate to these minis is coming in October.

Yes, a new update, its in its final play test stage, so if you would participate (even by just reading it!) that would be great. PM me with your email address and I will send the documents. Its got a ton of options, so your buddies might have a go now....
