Title: Robots Attack!
Post by: Operator5 on September 15, 2007, 03:44:59 PM
I'm working on the photos for Fantastic Worlds and I felt like sharing this one. This is using the new Zuzzy mat I just got, along with some jungle plants by Grimm (sort of an oasis in the desert kind of look).

The robots are from Hydra Studios.

THe image is not finished, so this is a work-in-progress shot. But it's fun anyway.

The extent to which my gaming efforts have been circling around the Rattrap rulesets lately is beginning to feel almost ridiculous. This picture is not helping. I can't even stick to one Rattrap-related project long enough to finish a batch of miniatures before I start feeling the pull of another. Now the Gloire guardists on my painting table will probably have to make way for some pulp robots as soon as I can get an order in.

Or to put it another way: "Overload! Overload!" (spoken in distorted robot voice)

I received mine free since I'll be featuring them in Fantastic Worlds so I don't know what the price point will be.

They are supposed to be available for sale on October 1st at the Hydra Press site.

You mean like Cocaine?

The little ones are nice enough, but I just love the big one. Reminds me of Robot Archie a tiny bit. That retro style of robot, anyway. That's what Robots should look like, Mr. Lucas. They should look like they're made out of metal, not out of computer games.

Oh good, I was starting to think I was the only one who saw the Castle in the Sky similarities! That's one of my main reasons for liking the sculpt.

That said, I've never heard of Robot Archie before :?:

I saw Castle in the Sky on TV in the 80s, when it was called "Laputa: The Flying Island" but apparently Laputa means something rude in Spanish, so the title was changed for the 2003(?) re-release.

To my understanding that was only done with the US release, considering the large hispanic population of that country. But thinking about it, I suppose all the rest of the Anglo-American world would have followed suit quite readily. I still think Laputa is the more "correct" name, though, and prefer to use it.

By the way, I was told once that Lupin encounters some very similar robots (to the Laputa ones, and by extension I suppose the Hydra ones) in the first "Lupin the Third" TV series. Both were made by Miyazaki, who seems to have a penchant for crossovers like that.

Not only in the US. Here in Spain, it is only called "The Castle in the Sky"... Cartoons (no matter the genre) are still considered a product for kids, here; so it is unthinkable for the "defenders-of-good" to provide a children product named "La Puta" (In Spanish, that is a mix between bitch and whore, as many of you will know)

It's that Jonathan Swift's fault, the naughty beggar. He knew what he was doing, I'll warrant, putting rude foreign words in his books.
