Just a quick note to let people who may care know that, come the start of February, Doctor Who Adventures (the kiddies mag) will be releasing some more figures. In issue 203, you get 15 Daleks and in 204 you get a Cyberman / Sontaran force.
I got a lot of the i-Daleks last time but may reserve some copies rather than hunting high and low.
Praise be to DWM UK magazine and my son for being a chip off the old block when it comes to obsessions!
-
iDaleks yes... the Cybermen were a bit toy robot looking last time... could be a new sculpt... Sonts could be interesting... any teaser pics?
-
They usually have pics in the back of the mag the week before but will try website
-
;D You brits always get the cool stuff...
-
Keep us updated please!
-
Yes. Let us know when these are out. I would love to get some Dalek/Cybermen/Sontarans if some friendly UK LAFers would be willing to pick them up for me. I'm on Paypal.
-
Really quite interesting news. Very keen to see the Sontarans, although the Cybermen will be new style ones, and not my favourite Earthshock era types. Got to be worth a look though.
I have a horrible feeling I'm going to be a very disappointed young Bob come February. lol
-
I have a horrible feeling I'm going to be a very disappointed young Bob come February. lol
Too true . We got lucky with the iDaleks . What are the odds on them being nice sculpts and in the right scale ?
It's a kids comic after all , so I'm not building my hopes up .....No really ...I'm not...Honest ... ;D
-
When are issues 203 and 204 coming out, and does anyone know more about the figures in them?
-
i think issue 201 came out today, free gift ;an inflatable shark!
-
oooh--modern Sontarans would be nice. Hope the sculpt is good and the scale is usable. Haven't painted up my classics yet--maybe this will get me motivated to do it.
-
This week the free gift was a notebook and pencil , but the inside cover reveals that next week we get seventeen ..yes..SEVENTEEN iDALEKS . They look to be the same as the 5 pack orange lot from last year , but in a variety of colours .
That's a pretty sizeable force for the price of a kids comic .
-
Same scale, same mold as the 5-pack?
If so, anyone want to pick me up a couple issues?
-
What day of the week does this mag hit the shelves? I've checked my local WH Smith in the past and they are always out of stock, I'm thinking they are eagerly awaited by fans and snapped up.
-
Every Thursday Neil :D
-
Whereas someone on the DWMG list just said mondays or tuesdays...
-
I think it's officially Thursday . However , I know at least one place where the shelf filler can't be bothered and puts them out when he gets them on Wednesday .
So I can clear out one newsagent on Wed after work , and a couple before I start work on Thurs >:D
Assuming they're not blobby lumps of hideousness .If so , I'll let the kids have them .
-
flicked through the current issue and had a look at the next week pic... they look bloody exactly like the 28mm ones to me...
-
I thought so too . The dodgy mould lines are identical . If they already have a mould , why make another ?
Of course that would mean we get the "Cyberpie"men back next week ....I might pick up a few just for the comedic value. lol
-
17 Daleks might be hard to pass up--even though I paid way too much to ship 3 copies of DWA internationally with the last run of them. Not sure if I need an army of 30+ new paradigm Daleks but having some in reserves might be good for customs if they do something exciting with the pepperpots in series 6.
-
If any one feels like helping me out. I would be interested in Daleks, Cybermen and Sontarans. :D
-
I'll be grabbing as many issues as I can and will post on here and Frothers as and when...
anyone wondering why 17... according to the pic I saw there are 5 red, 5 orange, 5 blue (drone, scientist and strategist) which would be multiples in Dalek society and 1 white (supreme) and 1 yellow (eternal) which would be unique
-
Uncle Mike's asked me to get him a few and post em across the pond.
I'll grab what I can find our local WHS as well, any spare, I'll post up.
-
Does the price of this magazine vary each week?
I noticed this weeks was £2-20 but the last one i bought was £2-99
Dex
-
No idea, reserved 8 though! ;)

I don't know why I'm so happy . I nearly went mad painting the domes on the last lot . and now it turns out I need more blue and orange !!

Cheap at twice the price though if i can find them...
-
no sign this morning... wander home the long way to check out a few sources...
-
Just ordered it from my local newsagent, in the next couple of days in theory..................

Usually £2.20, but recently odd issues with big toys attached have been more. They still describe them as "free" gifts, though!
-
I checked today too, this afternoon (possibly not the same shops as AEG): it's still the issue with the notebook and pen, which says that the 'Dalek army' is out on Thursday 3rd.
-
The war is on boyos!
Report straight from my ickle neice who has the magazine on subscription and therefore gets it early:
17 Daleks for £2.20!
1 White supreme, 1 Yellow eternal and then red, blue etc.
They are the same size as the last lot!
6 issues gets you 102 Daleks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The next week is Cybermen vs Sontarans. No idea as to scale but apparently the Sonts have their helmets on.
For us non subscription plebs, the Dalek issue should be out on Thursday.
Time to do battle in newsagents and snatch copies away from small crying children!!!
BWA-HA-HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Any chance I could raise my hand for some talented LAFfer to get me three copies? (I know, I know, people will be posting what surpluses they have, but I thought I'd get into the queue)
-
I found some this evening .
A slightly different moulding from last time . The most noticeable thing being the shape of the top-dome which has a ridge rather like a British WWII helmet .. The first issue was better , but these aren't bad .
Next week sees the return of the Cyber-Pie Men and some curiously emaciated Sontarens...
-
right...
I got 3 issues this morning, choosing not to clear them out of stock completely...
will be willing to part with 2 - bear in mind I'm making this offer on 3 different forums though
as these do appear to be different, will also have some from the previous release going as well... will sort that out when I get home...
as I'm at work now, I've scanned the back page to show the cybermen and sontarans, but have no ftp access, so if someone can host it sooner, pm me your email address and I'll email it over to you, otherwise it will be posted when I get home tonight....

Here's the scan from Chris

Not seen it yet, but then I haven't been out today. How much is this week's mag does anyone know?

Right, I'd best get me boots on then...

Now that's made my day, the bids and postage have already exceeded the cost of the mag which is still on the shelves. I'm assuming the bidders are UK based as the seller's terms say he will only ship tp the UK.
Anyway, my local WH Smith has sold out already. Someone around here likes Daleks.
-
I left one copy for the kids in our local tesco's but picked up 4. Have another load reserved at WHS. There will be some available for our colonial and european friends if needed.
-
Not to be leftout I got myself two issue's.Not bad little toy's.
-
I picked 2 up from WHSmiths in Newcastle (Northumberland St), got loads still (about 30 mins ago) if anybody is after them. Don't look too bad. :)
-
Picked up 4 this morning, will get some more I think. Im also happy to buy some for our brethen overseas , just pm me how many but be quick! I will be getting the sontarans/ cyberthingys next week too, although they dont look as usable.

Hi
I have picked up 4 spare copies if anyone would like them. Plastic seems a bit fragile as one copy has a broken one :-[ , am keeping that copy.
Just let me know.

Is there more than one DW magazine?
Just tried another source and they have a DW magazine but its sealed in a bag and all it has with it is some free posters.
-
There seems to be 3 Dr Who magazines ;D
I got some very strange looks when I got mine.

you need Doctor Who Adventures (DWA) which is a young kids comic really... Doctor Who Magazine (DWM) has been around for decades and is more fan orientated, with behind the scenes articles and reviews and stuff... there used to be a Battles In Time magazine as well, don't know if that is still about - supported the CCG...
-
Got some spares if any of your overseas LAFers want a copy. PM me.
-
quick pics... although everyone must have seen them somewhere by now...
the change in the dome to a lower 'tommy helmet' shape is curious... maybe a new look for the 2012 series and they are getting in early... the earlier release of the iDaleks (orange) certainly look more like the iDaleks we know and loathe (ok, they grew on me), but the new release seems crisper on detail...

I don't suppose they just trimmed a bit off, so that the pack would fit in the space between the title logo and the bottom of the page?
-
Thanks for posting the scans and pics! I wish DWA had published a front view of the Sontarans. Unfortunately it looks like the arms are fused to the body so not much room for easy customization. I think I will probably pass on them. (yea--fewer figures in the unpainted pile! ;) )
-

that is an annoyingly logical marketing point of view... you could be right you know...
-
AEG. Nice Pics, thanks. By the way, where did you get that size of plastic base? I tried like hell to find some that weren't too big or too small. Are those 35mm? who makes them? I have a bunch of these on the way and want to base them up with my previous ones.
-
I think the flattened dome looks a little better--wonder if it is a glimpse of what is to come or if as you say was done for marketing/space reasons.
-

I'm cleaned out...
-
The one I left on the shelf in Tesco's is still there, if anyone wants it I'll grab it tomorrow.
-
It would be an interesting statistic to see how many of the buyers of this publication this week were in the actual target age group, as opposed to all us 30+ wargamers. I got my two copies he he.
-
I gave one of the copies I got to my 8-year-old. Then swapped one of my whole daleks for his broken-eyestalk one, for I am a good dad, honest.
So I think that means, out of 2,000 extra sales this week, one went to a kid.
-
Well ...
I buy it every week anyway.
:`

Awesome Karl, I love the professionalism of your ruleset, very special.
(Not sure how Aunty Beeb stays away though but lovely as I say).
-
Cheers - and remember it's all FREE!
-
I have managed to pick Barnstaple clean of the dalek knobrot scourge (14 issues). So let's just say I have a few. Four are spoken for (Uncle Mike you are sorted sir!), I've still to decide how many I want to keep, (bearing in mind I've got 20 of the earlier I-dalek ones from last year as well).
But there will be a good few available for people definately.
-
I have painted one,
(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_8x1O5uXLjpg/TU08GoXqKpI/AAAAAAAAAxg/oCoWXyprf6k/s1600/exterminate.jpg)
-
You do all realise how utterly tedious Daleks are to paint, don't you? It's all those hemispheres on the bottom half. At 48 per Dalek, that's 816 per Dalek Army pack. Commander Vyper has 11,424 Dalek balls to paint!
Er, so to speak.
-
I managed to get 5 copies today and have realised that the Daleks actually came with a magazine :o ...if you look at the back, there are pix of the upcoming Sontarans and Cybermen...and they don't look nearly as appealing as the Daleks...unless you are looking for chess-pieces.
You don't have to individually paint the balls if you don't use them as Dr Who miniatures:

With the sonts, I'm hoping in a worst-case scenario I'll be able to chop off the helmets to transplant onto some Hasslefree Grymn... (which I fear I may have to do, judging by the 'arms moulded to their sides' look in the preview picture...)
-
those sontarans are a little phallic arent they.....
-
BTW - if anyone wants any 30mm bases for their Daleks we've round chamfer edged ones in the CD store:
http://www.crooked-dice.co.uk/store4.html
-
those sontarans are a little phallic arent they.....
i agree, my first impression was "reservoir tip" lol Hoping they look a little better head on...
-
Just seem someone on ebay's selling them in pairs for £2.69 :o that is so taking the piss!
venice666dog is selling sets for £15!!!!!!, unbelievable.
Anyway... eight out of my fourteen sets have now been reserved/claimed, (4 to canada, 2 to US, 2 to Sweden).
I think I'll keep the remaining 102 daleks for a rainy day! ;)
-
I've got my fingers crossed that my cousin has managed to get me some. Otherwise I will be on the bludge. ;)
-
Brace Yourselves.....

Made of a very rubbery plastic too.
Oh well , it was good while it lasted ... lol
-
Words fail me.
Ok, so words don't fail me. That Sontaran looks like a marital aid, and the cyberman is pregnant.
Words should have failed me.
-
I bought a load of those cybermen when they first came up, and I actually repainted wth a silver spray , black wash and drybrush. They still look crap.
But I might use them as non cyberman baggy trousered robots.
-
Picked up a copy of the issue with cybermen/sontarans.
Not brilliant sontaran scupts (a bit skinny) but they are scaled reasonable well and small in stature.
No weponry on the sontarans but it could be easily rectified as long as your not intending to produce display models but just cannon fodder!
material apperas to be a bit vinyl like and the sontarans are all purple coloured.
I'm thinking of using the cybermen, with head modifications, as generic pulp type robots.
Hope that's of help.
-
I now understand why that ad only has a side shot of them. lol
-
That Sontaran looks like a marital aid, and the cyberman is pregnant.
Obviously they don't get on .. ;)
-
Thanks for posting the picture! Shame that the scale of the Sontarans is good but the sculpt is so bad. Will be interesting to see if anyone will pull off a paint job to make them look good.
-

lol lol lol lol lol lol lol
those figures are just shit though :-[

That's a "no" from me, then. :(
See, I said on the very first page that I would be disappointed by these. I am a prediction machine! Who wants this week's lottery numbers!?
-

Yes please and I want to know where and when money will be falling from the sky.
-
had a cursory glance in the shop... I reckon the Sonts could pass as statues...
-
Very, very disappointing, especially considering how good the Daleks are. I suppose I should have guessed after the first release of Cybermen, but I'm cursed with optimism.
They missed a real opportunity here - a bit more effort in sculpting and moulding and they could have cleaned up. What I wouldn't give for a decent quality, cheap range of Sontarans :(
-
What I wouldn't give for a decent quality, cheap range of Sontarans
Well, I'd certainly give £2.20 for 8 of them! Sadly, these don't even look worth that much.
-
Utter shite, why they couldn't get a decent sculptor to do them I don't know.
-
I bought them this morning and :o ... they are horrible miniatures. At first I thought to throwing away but when I arrived at home I made some cuts here and there and now I have a better thing. You can make clockwork infantry or something similar mixing Sontaran/Cybermen pieces and some plasticard. This is a trial.
<img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_8x1O5uXLjpg/TVSRBWOl2HI/AAAAAAAAAzs/eSJUa8UwBiU/s640/clockwork.jpg" height="311" width="640" /> (https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/waFMs3LtTCNhp9yWbRPsBQ?feat=embedwebsite)

Nice conversion--glad you were able to make something of them. Quite like your little clockwork man!
-
That clockwork man is pretty good from those minis!

Regards.
Impressive Andres, considering how appalling they are you've spruced them up nicely and found a potential pulp/who crossover as well.
The Commander
-
Those conversions are cool. Their necks remind me of Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots.
-
For some reason I feel like he would look good with a high scarf hiding that neck, and those eyes looking out over top.
-
Great conversions there.
Cybermen and Sontarans are disappointing after the quality of the Daleks, but to be fair they were freebies on a kids' magazine.
I am going to have a go at doing something with the Sontarans, as I can't afford HF Grymn and the level of converting needed is possibly beyond me.
-
I had a go at painting up one of the Sontaran suppositories.
If it had a gun, and if I hadn't made the mould lines worse by trying to remove them with too blunt a blade, that might almost be usable.
-
Definitely a big improvement, but even your lovely paintwork can't hide the fact it's a crappy figure.
Sadly I couldn't bring myself to use them :(
-
Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, I'm waiting to see someone trying to convert the 'Cybermen' into something more like the Borg from Star Trek.
Don't know how they'd do it, but as a base for simple conversions like the Clockwork Men forum member einarolafson did, 8 figs for the equivalent of £1.10 is good value.
-
why? the borg were a cyberman rip off anyway

It's good . but it still needs a fishing rod and a rockery .
-
Well painted that Sontaran, Steve.
I decided to not to paint a Sontaran, I have used half of a cybermen head to do a different type of robot for my Alien Squad Leader greys. I will use them as AI infantry.

Nice. What are the guns from. They make all the difference in rendering these useful. The PJ helps a lot as well. ;)
-
All the weapons are GW bits from my spares box the long weapon is a dark eldar gun with blades removed, both group leaders have a sword (imperial guard i think), the heavy weapon for the black unit is a space marine bolter with skulls removed and the other troops in the black unit have bolt pistols, the most numerous weapon in the blue unit is a plasma pistol from the first ever plastic space marines (late 80s), there are also several holstered pistols from dark eldar and imperial guard sets-it was a case of using what i had.
I think any futuristic weapons could work as long as you dont have too many different ones in a unit and they are not stupidly large (Orcs),
have a go and post them up! ;)
-
Thanks! I think I'll try that.

Ok youve had long enough now, lets see some pics. :D
Mine are still in the mail on the way from the UK to the US. As soon as I get my mitts on them, I'll have a go. :D
-
hmmmm!?.....Ok. ;D
-
Have you got them yet? ???
-
pretty sure he's not got them yet.
they were posted Feb 12th and are still in transit, whereas Froggy's only took nine days to arrive
the post office said
delays of two weeks may continue for heavier packets sent by social (non-contract) customers that are still unable to fly due to security restrictions. We are continuing to explore alternative solutions for these items, to return them to air transit as soon as possible
Royal Mail is very sorry for the recent unavoidable delays; we are continuing to work to minimise disruption to our customers, whilst ensuring we comply fully with the US directives and regulations.

Just got them. Will post pics as soon as I get paint on them. Not tonight though, it's the 15th anniversary and I have duties. :D

Well? ??? were still waiting.
